My wife and I were in town for the Boat show on Friday 1/17/20 staying at the Hyatt next door. We were kidless so looking for something nice and romantic. Walked right in no wait got a nice corner booth. Our waiter (Dylan) was fantastic. Did a full presentation of the drinks, starters , etc.. we both ordered steaks that were out of this world good. Drinks were good, appetizers were great.
Dining room was full but not overly loud to start with but that changed unfortunately... Unfortunately there was a table of three men in the middle of the room. The head guest kept getting louder and we realized he was not pleased with the service. It became impossible to ignore and we rapidly noticed it was not the service, he was an arrogant a-hole. His behavior continued to worsen and at one point he told the waitress (who had been overly kind to them) that she was the worst ever and to “just go away” and made a shooing jester with his hand. They had purchased as bottle of wine and the cork went missing, the waitress found another cork and when attempting to recork the bottle, the cork broke. The waitress apologized profusely and offered to get a new cork and the customer loudly said “you have done enough, leave please”. By this point much of the dining room had cleared out but there were still a number of tables and we were all looking uncomfortably. He made a large loud deal with his guests about not leaving a good tip because “she was awful, worst he had ever had” shortly after they left the manager, Toby, came by our table to offer us some on the house deserts because it was the first time at a Hyde Park. I gave her $20 and asked that she got it to the waitress that served the guys because she did not deserve that behavior from them. Toby apologized and said “oh yeah, he is a regular. Everyone takes their turn on who has to wait on him” I responded with “he always acts like this?” And the answer was “unfortunately, yes”.
I sell heavy equipment and I have customers I will not deal with because of their behavior. I have turned down $150,000 plus deals because I know it’s not worth it... If this is this customers normal behavior and this is how he normally treats your employees, he needs to be asked to not return. No one deserves the behavior he exhibited at your restaurant. It made the entire evening uncomfortable for those around him. So much to the point that if I came in to your restaurant, which I plan to again as we frequently stay at the Hyatt, and he was in there I would go across the street to Burntwood Tavern or to another restaurant. That was my only disappointment, it’s hard to believe you would allow someone to continue to dine that is so vulgar...
Read moreThis occasion for a visit to the top tier restaurant Hyde Park was a birthday celebration and at the same time to hear some stories of other family who had returned from vacation in London and Paris. I called for reservations and also asked about one of the private rooms. They had available the wine room which I said yes to. I spoke the next day to someone who reserves that room. This night the table was set for 8. The wine room is part of a bigger room which can be open up and my guess seats up to 20 or more. I loved we had the part with the bottle storage. As it was set up it was very intimate. Gleaming silverware and crisp linens great you upon arrival.
After arrival we got down to selecting the wine and picked a featured Crossbarn Cab which was superb. Dark mysterious fruit established with 10s of sub flavors. A great wine.
The menu has many choices despite is brief length they are all so good it's hard to choose. There are multiple choices for rib eye I choose the bone in 22 oz. at medium rare. There was a dry aged 28oz and a 16oz. Other orders included other of their amazing selections lobster, filet, and salmon. While the other guests got appetizers I order ceasar salad with anchovies. It was so delicious with flat crumbling parmesan reggiano throughout.
The food is delivered by teams which is fun as everything arrives it seems almost instantly once it's ready. Fresh baked bread arrived. Our waiter, who possessed a memorable handsome beard and is in one of the pictures was extremely knowledgeable about the nuances of the menu and the many variations and additions we could choose. His depth of knowledge makes you feel like a frequent diner and gives you custom opportunities. We added side dishes to split of steamed asparagus, roasted Brussels sprouts, and amazing potatoes with cheese. The special birthday guest ordered the 9 oz dry aged burger. He also received a birthday card from the staff and a piece of flourless chocolate cake with candle.
We had visits from the GM who also delivered food and he enquired of our happiness. We assured him of the great food and service. Hyde park is one of the very top of the top tier restaurants at Crocker park but it's not stuffy. It's fun. They are dedicated to giving you the best food and best dining experience. Everyone took home food. This restaurant is a great experience so...
Read moreJim the manager called me a couple of times and offered a gift card. I went back to give it a try without letting them know who I was and everything was perfect. Happy to see that my last experience was in fact a one time and Hyde park Westlake still treats its guests right. Will be back for sure.
Have been going to this location for a couple of years now mostly on business. A couple of weeks ago had a group of 6 people on business dinner. We specifically come here knowing it’s pretty expensive in order to get good service and quality food. The experience was horrible this time that I was embarrassed in front of our international guests. Steaks took 1 hour to arrive, 2 of the people in our party had to get up find a fork themselves and 2 of us who had burned steaks couldn’t find the server to complain. After 10 minutes of waiting we just decided to eat them, as it was pointless to make it anymore awkward. One of the steaks had a spicy seasoning that was unbearable as described by our colleague but no one to complain. By the time server came we were finished, however one person asked for left overs on to go box. Server came with a box in the middle of our table started to put the steak, Mac and cheese and spinach. Not 5 star fancy steakhouse scene. Asked for dessert menu took 45 minutes to get our orders which by that time everyone was ready to go home and a couple folks took dessert to go. Another 25 min for the check, dropped off my manager. We didn’t complain in front of our international guests as we were embarrassed and wanted to get out do there due to the unpleasant experience and take our guests to another place to finish off the night, but I send an inquiry to the restaurant afterwards. They gave me a call to apologize and would follow up for the inconvenience but it’s been crickets. Place seems like it’s going downhill and if you are a big party, they don’t care about service as they will include the tip regardless… which is a shame if the service I am getting is no where close to the tip expectation. We spent over $800 for 6 people to get a...
