I don't typically write negative reviews, but I feel like I owe it to other brides out there to shed some light on my experience at Love & Lace, which wasn't as fun or festive as my experiences at other bridal boutiques.
The stylist who helped me (Lex) was very friendly, and she understood my vision of what I was looking for in a wedding dress. I have nothing bad to say about her, but overall I did not have a great experience at Love & Lace compared to other stores in the area. This was due to store policies and general management.
At Love & Lace, you're required to pay a $40 fee for an appointment. This seemed crazy to me as I wasn't expecting to pay to have the privilege of spending thousands on a dress, but I guess this is starting to become a common thing. Note that this fee is credited towards your dress if you buy, but if you decide to go elsewhere, that money is lost. What was especially frustrating with this fee was that this shop has a pretty small selection of wedding dresses compared to other stores I visited (and those shops did not have a fee). Love & Lace also has a strict "no browsing policy," which I found odd, because at other stores I enjoyed the fact that I could walk around and look at the beautiful gowns, and perhaps pick something off the rack I hadn't expected to like. If you're going to pay $40 to spend an hour in a store, I think they should add some value to your appointment! No drinks were offered here (not even water), whereas at other stores they gave complimentary soft drinks and sparkling wine.
Regardless, Love & Lace has some nice dresses, and one dress they carry made the top three of wedding dresses I loved. I was strongly considering it. My appointment was in early December and my wedding will be mid June (6 month timeline). At Love & Lace they estimate that their dresses will be ready in 6-8 months, but before my appointment they told me it would be possible to do a rush order from the designer, and it might be possible to buy a sample from the floor. I really loved one of the dresses, but after a few days of trying on a lot of dresses, I said I needed to sleep on it before deciding. They said I had to decide right then and there, during my appointment, or I wouldn't be able to buy the dress. This seemed crazy to me – if you're going to pay extra to do a rush order, surely there's not much difference between ordering on a Friday night vs. a Saturday morning? This just felt like a pressure tactic from the store, like a sales trick to try to get me to buy immediately. I didn't let the pressure get to me, in fact, it helped me decide to let this dress go as there were just too many hoops to jump through to get it. They said selling a sample wasn't an option. I asked if they could tell me what size I would be in the gown, but they said they didn't know what size I tried on. If you're not going to sell the dress to me, surely you could at least tell me the size of the dress I should order? Maybe I could find the dress on a resale site? For $40 you could at least tell me my size!
Other stores nearby had no issues selling samples, getting rush orders, etc. in my wedding timeline, so in the end Love & Lace lost my business. I don't think a big decision like your wedding dress should feel pressured or rushed, so I just wanted to share my experience so others could learn from it. Ultimately, my mom and sister felt like the store was playing games, and that's not how you want to feel when making such an emotional decision. And it wasn't just me – my mom heard a different stylist telling another bride that she had to purchase the dress that night (Friday) even though she couldn't get money from her bank until Tuesday.
I had great experiences at Anthropologie, Styled by TC, and Mary Me Bridal (none of which charge appointment fees). With the exception of Anthro, these stores had thousands of dresses in stock to try, a much bigger selection. These stores allowed browsing and applied zero pressure – I would recommend...
Read moreLet's start with the most important thing, I'm about to jump headfirst into a relationship with a fun, loving, patient, and adventurous person and I'm f&$&8?! ecstatic. I'm grateful for this and couldn't ask for more. Life is consistently good, we're happy and healthy. I try to be a realist, a socialist, and my goal with this review is to communicate feedback for Love & Lace to use for improvements, as well as to offer advice to folks who are in the market for a wedding dress. I was on vacation visiting CA (from out of state) and Love & Lace carried the line of dresses I was interested in. I couldn't find these in my home town. I set up an appointment and Ramona helped me with the fitting. I found a dress and she measured me. Ramona made this process easy, thank you Ramona. Advice for L&L: THINK about your measurements. This is your business and you should have the skills to do correct measurements. If you can't perform these skills, you're scamming your customers. Here's my example: I have a large chest and small waist, 32DDDD to be exact. When my dress arrived the cups looked very small. After taking it to two seamstresses (who specialize in wedding dress alterations), I was told by both that altering my dress was NOT possible. Ultimately, you can't fit 4D's into one B. The dress would have to be added-to in order to work, not altered but remade. Both seamstresses were confused on how I was fitted for the dress and how it went so wrong. I did not gain/loose weight, get pregnant, change my diet, get a breast enhancement or reduction, I was the same. L&L and I exchanged emails about the problem and when all was said and done I was told 'at least you can sale your dress online!' This statement is what disappointed me more than the dress not fitting, the lack of human in this industry is disgusting. As your customer who just spent a large sum of money, shouldn't we have more leverage? There was no discussion of any other options. I'm not going to describe my feelings towards this dress in fairy tail fashion. It is a beautiful dress that was flattering when I tried it on in L&L. I tried on a size 12 and Ramona clamped the back so it was form fitting. It was simple, elegant, and most of all, it fit! What I didn't think of at the time was that it was a size 12, and Ramona ordered a size 4 for me. I have never fit into size 4 jeans or shorts and wear a size medium top. I trusted Ramona with her measurements because this is her job. I'm a nurse and anticipate that I will be trusted, therefore I HAVE to know how to care for my patients. This concept is simple and fair. If you have expertise and knowledge and are selling these qualities for a steep price, make sure it counts. 4D's will never equate to one B. In hindsight I should have seen this coming, but I trusted the expert. You're welcome L&L for supporting your business in exchange for a dress that doesn't fit, a lot of stress and time, a fair amount of tears, a feeling of disappointment in myself for falling for this industry, and worst off a let-down in fairness. For the buyers out there, I hope my story has raised questions for you. Think about how much money you're about to spend on a dress and be aware of the paperwork you are signing when you do so. When you finally find THE dress you're overtaken by excitement and all clarity evaporates. If the dress doesn't fit (because there's a good chance it won't), is it worth the money, time, and stress? This industry will not give you a second chance.
I've lived and I've learned and I'm looking forward to the rest of my life. This dress is material and it's not worth the stress. I get to marry a rad man, and that's what matters!
I just read a review about someone selling a used dress at L&L, how come you never offered to sale my new,...
