I have been going to the library since its old location for the past forty years. Its tanked lately, removing their best books, and feels a lot more like its trying to be a work space. The biggest issue is a human rights and privacy issue. I was astonished to see they are using Hikvision cameras. This is the opposite of security. This camera brand shares with the peoples republic of china, is undergoing lawsuits for corporate espionage, and is sanctioned by the US Government. This feels somewhat reckless for patrons like me and puts vulnerable citizens at risk. It brings up other cybersecurity concerns. The librarians and other staff are helpful and are who really earns the best stars here. I hope the decision makers change course and disconnect those cameras.

This is the best library I have been to in America. Not because of the architecture or stately gardens or grounds, but because of it’s usefulness to the community. A building full of books, sure, it is that. But on top of that, opportunities for learning and community growth abound. It has a stage for talks and performances (complete with a grand piano), a recording studio, a post production studio, a control room, a lab for 3D printing, a gallery, a coffee shop, a “library of stuff” where you can check out tools and other hobbiest items. In Westport they have taken the idea of what a library can do for the community and expanded upon it.

What an idyllic spot to sit on one of the many benches next to the brickwalk. I grew up in this library as a child in the many children's activities and section of the library, and I took my son, James, there as well for the essential and creative group and independent activities. Now, I enjoy a hot coffee ☕ on the bench contemplating the town, past and present as the river goes by. Splendidly peaceful and contemplative.

My sons have used the library extensively, but I've been a very sporadic user. Last week I lamented on FaceBook that a book I needed was much more expensive at Barnes & Noble in town than online, and someone suggested that it was a shame libraries didn't carry such specialized books (a guide to Final Cut Pro X software). Maxine B saw the comment, checked it out, found that book for me and sent me a note before I even found the library website! Within an hour I was home with the book and productive.

The library is a treasure, Maxine is a gem, and we are lucky to have both in our little town. I've used the conference rooms, wifi, cafe, and periodicals sections in the past. Now I'll have to browse the shelves,...

My husband and I didn’t feel welcome with our 2 very well mannered children. It was assumed that we left a book on the floor and put baby dolls, that needed to be placed in a bin on the shelf, in the oven 10+ minutes prior to closing on a Sunday afternoon. A librarian asked us if we were done with a book on the floor close to us, and after my son looked in the kitchen oven, she said, and I quote, “ the babies are done cooking.” This behavior is extremely judgmental and the very definition of implicit bias and/or racist. The staff seemed bothered and unwelcoming. We will not be returning to this establishment and encourage the staff to educate themselves to make this world a better place...
