I just returned from the Westport location and feel the need to share my dining experience. This comes from a place of believing that constructive feedback is needed to grow. My reservation was at 5:30. My guest and I sat down and ordered drinks, the waitress informed us the bar was backed up and the drinks would be delayed, so we proceeded on ordering our meal. Cheesy garlic sticks, the Emily burger and the Roni pizza. After 10 minutes our drinks arrived. We then proceeded to wait 20 minutes for our appetizer. The kind waitress keep saying the food will be right out, sadly it keep getting further delayed. About 30 minutes later the manager stopped by to ask about our meal, I shared I was disappointed as we have been waiting over 30 minutes now for an appetizer. She responded that she would go check on our order and that our drinks were on the house. She returned soon after and explained that it would still be a further wait for our food as the kitchen was backed up due to an influx of online orders. Another 20 minutes ( now up till over an hour since we 1st sat down) and still no food. I inquire with the manager again, the food should be right out, she then shared the whole meal would be on the house, and that she would like us to return at a later date to experience the restaurant at what the standard for service should be, while very kind, I just wanted my food. Finally after an hour our pizza arrived, before the appetizer of cheesy bread; not ideal but after waiting an hour I was glad to have food. The pizza was excellent, but sadly overshadowed by the delay and negative experience. I then see a nearby table receiving their cheesy bread appetizer, which they had ordered 20 minutes before. Obviously frustrated I inquired with the manager as to how another table who sat down at least 40 minutes after I placed my order was able to receive their food before me. The manager explained promptly ‘they pre-ordered their meal online before arriving at the restaurant’. This seemed unique so I decided to look on your website to see how the process worked, only I was only able to see the choices for delivery and pick up. I will take the manager at her word, but frankly I do not believe her and think it was a lie to cover for the fact my food was not delivered. Another 10 minutes later the appetizer arrived, also very good. I then inquired about the burger I also ordered, oh yea it’s on its way. Well, 20 minutes later still no burger. Finally after 10 more minutes it arrives, and it is clearly cold and not freshly cooked. My guest and I finish our food and ask for the check. The manager never returned to the table. Upon getting my check I notice my meal was not fully comped, only half taken off and no discussion of a additional visit on the house. All and all I was more the food is great, I could get over the delay but was really bothered me was the out and out dishonesty from the manager. Instead of sharing the reasons and excuses and false promises she should have made the situation right and brought my meal out immediately. I will not be returning and sadly my experience tonight was not unique, every table around me complained of the same experiences and received the same lack of response...
Read moreI had the pleasure of visiting Emmy Squared for a father-daughter date night, and I must say it exceeded all expectations. Having heard countless praises about Emmy Squared pizza online, I was thrilled to discover a location close to my new home in Connecticut. This visit turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made in a long time.
The restaurant is conveniently situated on the main strip alongside other dining options, but it's somewhat tucked away if you enter from the back or the side, as we did. The place was impeccably clean, and while parking was a bit of a challenge, we eventually found a lot up the stairs on the adjacent street. Upon entering, my daughter and I were warmly welcomed by the hostess, who promptly seated us. The seating was comfortable, although a tad more elbow and legroom would have been appreciated.
Our server, Kevin, was a true standout. He was patient, polite, and incredibly understanding, embodying everything you could desire in a top-notch server. In fact, the entire staff was remarkable. The food arrived promptly, and I couldn't help but notice the exceptional quality of the ingredients and the sheer deliciousness of the pizza.
I opted for the VIP, and my daughter went with the Angel, which was a perfect choice for her. We also indulged in a plate of cheesy garlic sticks, which were some of the best I've ever had. The pizza, with its well-balanced ingredients, didn't overpower the palate. Being of Detroit style, the crust had a delightful crispiness with a satisfying crunch, while the interior was wonderfully gooey and decadent. If I were to offer any suggestions, I'd request a bit more pepperoni next time, and I'll make sure to ask for it to be a tad crispier since that's my personal preference. I'm not usually a fan of too much sauce, but theirs was exceptional.
I wholeheartedly recommend Emmy Squared for a date night, a night out, or any special occasion that gives you an excuse to savor this culinary gem.
Towards the end of our meal, we were greeted by one of the managers, Bridget. She was incredibly sweet and kind. With her and Kevin on duty, you're in excellent hands. I'll definitely be returning to Emmy Squared. Thanks to the entire team for making our night out with my daughter...
Read moreI ordered delivery, and haven't had the full dining in experience yet, so this review is strictly around the pizza.
Although New Haven Apizza will always be my number one, I'm a big fan of Detroit style pizza. They're completely different beasts so I won't even try to compare them.
Detroit style, for those who haven't had it, is cooked in a type of sheet pan, with crispy cheese that burns (in a good way) along the edges of the crust where it meets the pan. The sauce is typically in bands across the top of the cheese in a traditional Detroit pie.
For my first time, I tried a classic Detroit style pie with pepperoni. The little pepperonis that curl into cups are a critical component of this style of pizza, and Emmy's passed the test there!
The pizza was very good, and definitely Detroit style. The crust although thick (which is normal for this style) was nice and light and similar to focaccia as it should be.
The sauce was excellent, no complaints there!
I do have two minor quibbles that IMO are keeping this pizza from Detroit greatness:
There is not enough of the crispy cheese on the outer crust. The edges should be darker with a lot more cheese in the equation. This is easily remedied, so I'm begging you to nail the best part of Detroit pizza!
The bottom of the crust is also a bit blonde for this style of pizza. I'm not sure if it's the pans used, the oven temperature, or the cook time, but again IMO, authentic Detroit style should have more color on the bottom.
For those of you familiar with Lions, Tigers, and Squares in NYC, I would put Emmy's a bit below them due to the two differences highlighted above.
Anyways, it's great to have Detroit style pizza in the area! The pies IMO fall just short of greatness, but could easily get there with a few tweaks.
I'm looking forward to checking it out in person when...
