My first experience here was buying a jogging stroller shortly after moving to Wildwood in the summer of 2011. I didn't want to buy such an expensive item off Amazon without looking around first, but I had my doubts about a bike shop in a tourist town- of course the price is going to jacked up, right? Wrong. I found a very nice model I've been very happy with, and the price was nearly identical to Amazon's. Later in the summer I came back for a bike trailer for the kiddo, and it would have been the same price as Amazon's, only I got a very generous discount for buying the display model that was a little faded, and had a few other non-functional issues. I have been going back ever since for all of my bike related needs, and have nothing but raves. The prices are always reasonable for parts and supplies, as well as service. I think it says volumes about a business when they perform quick odd jobs for cheap or free, like truing a wheel; I know they're calculating you'll come back and spend your money on something else, but it's just nice to know they're not ruthlessly taking you for all you've got! I haven't had any maintenance done on my bike there, but I've been buying my parts there (they can order just about anything you can dream of), and the bike mechanic is always willing to give advice. I DID have him work on an antique tricycle that needed the axle rebuilt; He made a nice effort to get in touch with an owners' club he found online, and ultimately custom built a vastly superior axle with modern sealed bearing cartridges. The service bill was unbelievably reasonable. I am VERY impressed, and always look forward to the day I "have" to go and pick...
Read moreI will never shop here again!! The customer service staff was horrible. We have a service animal and he told us we couldn’t have dogs “during the busy season” unless they are hand held and when we said she was a service animal he said “yeah ok, thats what they all say.” Wow! No respect for disabilities or people with disabilities or service animals! We left immediately and will never be back. We went to Wild Wood ocean surf shop and they didn’t give us any trouble and were so kind. If you need surf or skate in wildwood go there they respect humans with disabilities and their service animals.
7/18/24- I wanted to update that the owner of the shop Chris reached out and assured me that Kona allows service animals and was very apologetic and sorry that the stores policy was not followed by the employee. They sent us a gift card in hopes that we’d give them another try. I appreciate that the owner took time to let me know that they do have a policy and welcome service animals. I will try them out again as I do believe that the owner was sincerely apologetic and will ensure his staff is trained and up to date on the stores policies so this doesn’t happen to anyone else in the future with a service animal...
Read more"I should have started out at Kona." Kona has been a stalwart of the Wildwood Beach Community for my entire 44 years on this planet.
I was literally across the street from a competitor's shop, went there, was yelled at by the competitor's slovenly, smelly, ill-mannered staff, and made to feel stupid. I got back in the car and knew I should have gone to Kona. Kona could simply beat the competition by the fact that their employees look like they shower daily, don't get dressed from the hamper, and brush their teeth.
Kona, however, takes pride in their specialty. I was greeted with a bright inviting store with the merchandise laid out in a neat attractive way. The Kona employees are not only impeccably well dressed and clean, they are also knowledgeable and friendly, they took the time to listen to what I was doing (a water park on a colder windy day) and took me to exactly what I asked them to show me. They didn't try to upsell me. I got exactly what I needed at a fair price that not only reflects the quality of the merchandise but the service of...
