MudHen Brewing Company is a beer hall restaurant in Wildwood, NJ. But it’s also a whole other restaurant that’s kind of sort of attached to it? It’s a bit strange.
My party consisted of eight people, not small by any means, but certainly doable on a Thursday night in July. We arrived and were told it was a thirty minute wait for seats indoors, but that outdoor seating was available immediately. We agreed to sit outside but were then taken through the large patio area and into a whole other building that we were told was actually called The Station House.
We were assured that we could still order anything off of the MudHen menu, and that the experience would be the same. Great! We sat down at our table and waited for our waiter.
After a few minutes, our waiter arrived with waters but then told us it was actually for the table next to us—another group of about ten or so. They walked over to that table but then came back to us and gave us the waters instead. The other table promptly got up and left without ordering anything.
Not a great start.
Another waitress arrived and began taking our drinks orders. One of our party was left out of that portion for some reason and had to order about ten minutes after that point. She also informed us that we couldn’t order off of the MudHen menu and had to use the Station House menu instead. We told her we were a bit confused because the whole reason we agreed to sit down was to order off of the MudHen menu. She went back to her manager and a few minutes later, gave us MudHen menus instead. Weird but that’s fine. I understand being confused because it’s technically two different establishments—I think?
After receiving our drinks, all of which were lovely aside from the fact that they only had Pepsi products (I’m a diehard Diet Coke guy), we placed our orders for apps (not sure why we didn’t get to order at the same time as our drinks).
About ten minutes after that, our orders arrived and we dug in. Mine was good—I got soft pretzel bites (which you actually have to tear off of a pretzel twist) and three dipping sauces. The house made chips were also pretty solid. Once those were delivered we finally got to order our entrees.
After ordering, we waited for about fifteen minutes or so, during which the fire alarm suddenly went off do to something going wrong in the kitchen (see the attached video to hear what it sounded like). It happens, but man did it not fill any of us with confidence. The alarm took about another five minutes to be turned off, after which our food arrived.
I had ordered a cheesesteak with the house chips. It was good but not amazing. Way more bread than cheese or steak, and I’ve had equivalent quality and experiences at any number of south Jersey diners. My partner got a burger and everyone got their chosen dishes: nachos, beyond burger, salmon, and chicken.
Everything was… fine. It was... fine.
MudHen/StationHouse feels like one of those nicely modeled, weirdly expensive restaurants that everyone says you need to go try but really is just okay overall. Nothing stood out as spectacular or “Whoa! I need to get that!” to anyone in my group.
It was all just normal, American cuisine that came out hot but only met fairly standard expectations when you got down to it.
Maybe we went on an off night. It certainly felt odd the entire time. Our waitress was very nice but she was gone for ten minutes at a time and took her time with refills and the check. We spent about ninety minutes in total but it felt like two hours.
All in all, if you need a bite to eat, you can find cheaper places around Cape May that offer food that’s just as tasty and filling. Or you could go somewhere else for comparable money and have an amazing dinner/experience.
The live music in the courtyard/patio area was nice and floated through the outside to our table at a reasonable volume. But in order for you to leave, you have to walk through the crowd of people watching the band, and it’s a bit awkward.
I don’t think I’d go back again...
Read moreFrom the very beginning, The Station House at MudHen was a dream. The space offers an atmosphere that’s both unique and effortlessly stylish — the kind of place that immediately makes you feel like something special is happening. The vibe was the perfect balance of elevated and relaxed, and every tiny detail was so thoughtfully curated. From the ceremony setup to the lighting to the overall flow of the evening, the venue had this incredible ability to feel completely us, while also being seamless and sophisticated. What truly blew us away, though, was how much the team at MudHen handled — and how flawlessly they did it. We didn’t have to lift a finger. Everything from the table settings to the transitions between events was done entirely by their team, and it was all executed to perfection. They somehow made the entire day feel both effortless and orchestrated, with every moving part just flowing into the next without any stress on our end. It’s rare to find a venue that offers this level of detail and care without needing endless direction or oversight — they just get it. Ply, our coordinator, was the true MVP of the day. From a year prior, she started working with us on the details and not one thing was missed in the process. I don't know how she does it. She was ten steps ahead of everything — from making sure we had the right kind of cup in hand depending on whether we were walking around or taking photos, to putting extra drinks on the tables just in case the toasts ran long. She was so in tune with what we needed, even before we realized we needed it. The entire staff — bartenders, servers, everyone — was exceptional. Our guests could not stop talking about how warm, attentive, and on-point the service was all night long. I got so many compliments on it was the best wedding food people have ever had (and coming from food snobs). Drinks were high end and well made and NO bar lines ever. And honestly, we still laugh thinking about how many people came in saying, “Wait, you’re really getting married at a brewery?” only to leave saying, “That was the best wedding venue I’ve ever been to.” The Station House is anything but ordinary — it’s a total hidden gem that delivers on every front: atmosphere, hospitality, style, and service. We would choose it again a thousand times over. It was truly perfect and will always hold a special place...
