We were in town for vacation, and this was one of our main priorities for visiting. My husband and I are huge nerds, and he was delighted by their Warhammer selection, as well as their D&D selection. I was also incredibly impressed by everything they have. Their prices were great, most items were a few dollars less than MSRP, which is fantastic. Our local game store is also great, but the markup is pretty high, so we can't really afford to spend as much as we'd like. Which I understand, businesses have to make money. But CFG was much more reasonable, and we were able to get more here. They have a ton of games, both mainstream and indie, and they have a really great system for organizing. They had an entire shelf of 2 player friendly games, which we really appreciated because we don't have kids or a friend group to play games with. It's usually just the two of us. They had a list of their top recommendations for 2-player friendly games, which was really cool. There's a nice selection of overstock discounted & used games in the middle of the store, which was really nice.
Besides their huge and impressive selection of games, it was also a really welcoming atmosphere. The employees were friendly, and they didn't seem to mind us browsing for a while. We were in the store for quite some time (at least an hour) browsing before we checked out, and I was worried they'd get annoyed at us for mingling for so long, but they didn't. The music was great, and it wasn't too loud. The employees were very welcoming to every customer. I could hear them talking to everyone as they rang out or checked in (I'm assuming for a D&D session), and it seemed like they have built a very nice little community.
We also had an employee talk to us while we were browsing and offer to help us find a game, which we really appreciated!
We were so impressed that we returned the next day with one of our family members, and he was just as excited about the store as we were. It was great. I wish it wasn't 10+ hours away from my city, otherwise we'd be there regularly!
The café next door seemed really neat, but unfortunately I didn't get a chance to stop by while we were there.
Also, huge fan of the TAZ reference in the RPG section. (I'm from the city that the McElroys are from, so it was really neat to see this! Also we are just big...
Read moreLet me preface my review by saying I have never been here in person before.
I have been searching for a reusable D&D character sheet and I found one on Kickstarter that I really liked. I spent about 3 days searching for anyone who had some in stock. I decided to see if the manufacturer had a list of retailers, which they did. One of them was Cape Fear Games. I reached out and spoke with Daisy who was very polite and pleasant to speak with.
I was informed that they did in fact have what I was looking for as well as one of every color. Daisy told me that I would need to order them a special way because they were not listed on their website. This was okay with me because I really wanted these. So she took my information down and said they would be ready to order in the morning. I get off the phone and about 10 minutes later, Daisy calls me back from the store to let me know that they actually have another website that the books I was looking for were listed on. This made life super easy and I ordered them right then and there from my computer.
This morning, bright and early, I got an email saying that a shipping label has been created and they were shipped a few hours later. I can't wait to get these reusable character notebooks! If I lived in North Carolina I would definitely stop by regularly for any of my D&D needs. If the rest of the staff is as professional, polite and helpful as Daisy then there is no reason for anything less than a 5 star review.
10/10 from Colorado! Thank you for helping me get these notebooks for my friends and I!

Read moreI have been here twice now, and I plan on coming back as often as possible! First of all, the store is amazing and I never knew one place could have so many different and interesting things. Just the contents alone would justify a 5 star review. However, this review is for the awesome people that work there. You can tell that they are passionate about what they do, and they want to make sure every customer finds everything they want every time. Like I said, I have been here twice now, at different times of the day, and have been helped by different employees each time. Both times I felt very welcome, and my excitement from seeing all the awesome games, and puzzles, and art, and statues was only increased when an employee got involved and started explaining different things. Yesterday, I met Dylan who answered all of my questions about a card game that I had started playing. The first time I went, my wife and I were just looking for a new board game to play, and an employee didn’t just ask us what we were looking for, but she asked us what we liked in our games, how creative we liked to get, how long we would want to play for, and other questions like that. Then she directed us to a few games, but we fell in love with the first one she mentioned called Betrayal. Cape Fear Games has exceeded my expectations in every way, and they’re not even fully open yet, as they are doing their best to be conscious of the community’s health. Amazing place and each time I leave, I am immediately...
