The Underfront Co. — Restaurant in Wilmington

A soft breeze tussles my hair and the sound of gentle rain patters around me. "Wilmington weather..." I sigh, pulling my suede blazer together in a wistful attempt to stay dry, "With this deluge I'll be having a drink one way or the other." Glancing about my eyes alight upon a small sign perched just out from an overhang already keeping dry a man at a small wooden podium. "Underfront", I read to no one but myself and the increasing rain. Strolling with purpose now and for the sake of suede, I ask the man for enlightenment about this "Underfront". Looking up with a warm smile he tells me of the wonders below and beckons me through the now open door. Immediately the rush of warm chatter, the clink of glass, and the sound of soft music greet me. A stool at the bar calls to me and as I sit looking about, taking in the comfortable rustic décor with hints of industrial and a sprinkle of modern, a soft voice beckons to me. "Drink?" she queries. "Killer Bee", I reply. Before I finish taking in the room a beautiful cocktail is presented with flair and fervor. A sip.... a contented sigh.......

Love this place. The cocktail menu is extensive and unique, you can find something for everyone. I did not see/ask for a food menu so I cannot speak on what they have to offer. They have a gorgeous interior space that is the perfect medium between a slower, more conversational space and a higher energy, club space - perfect for people who want to have conversation/play board games (which they have PLENTY of options for) but don’t want to sit in a stuffy, quiet venue. The outdoor patio is beautiful and has plenty of seating. The staff was wonderful and helped us choose drinks that we may like. I look forward to coming back and recommending it...

I just feel lucky that I came in here. The Underfront Co is one of my favorite craft cocktail bars I have been to anywhere. Kinda dark but has a great friendly vibe. Who has three different fat washed bourbons on the drink menu? Underfront does. They have an extensive list of house creations and the drinks we had were fantastic. I don’t remember our bartender’s name but he was happy to talk shop and was filled with knowledge. When he found out we didn’t know where we were going to eat he gave us a great recommendation for what turned out to be a fantastic restaurant. Can’t wait to get back to Wilmington and will always drop in...
