I would love to give Soak Box 4 or 5 stars but I cannot. I wanted it to be my new float place but it is not. I would rather drive into NW Portland, spending an hour or more driving roundtrip, to enjoy a 90 minute FLOAT (not a shallow cool Epsom salt bath like at Soak Box), and pay around $20 less and with unlimited extra membership floats per month that are close to $30 less than Soak Box membership pricing, and include 30 more minutes of soak time than what Soak Box provides. Regular priced floats are also overpriced and are only 60 minutes.
The positives- the owner and staff are excellent at customer service for the most part. The aesthetics are simple, clean and inviting. The owner gave me a complimentary float after my first “float” since I hit bottom. She promised to get the issue fixed and even said she planned to talk to peers in the industry to try to solve the hitting bottom issue. They have spa slippers and plus size robes, which are good additions.
I won’t support businesses that have the option to accommodate larger sized bodies and refuse to fix the issue. With adequate water and epsom salt I would be floating rather than lying on the bottom of the tank.
The owner gave me one complimentary float after I had a negative experience which was hitting bottom in the float tank, and not floating. I would like a full refund for my package of three floats at this point. I had purchased a three pack at a new customer discount. Every float I’ve done there has been disappointing and ineffective for the purpose I most need with floats due to not actually floating, and having less time in the tank, and the high price.
I moved to Wilsonville last month and I was excited to find a float place less than 5 minutes from my new home. I was quickly stunned and disappointed with their price point.
Other float places have a standard 90 minute float and the prices are less than Soak Box’ rates. For example, a monthly membership float is $59 at The Float Shoppe for a 90 min float. Any additional floats for the member and their guests are $49. I’ve been floating at The Float Shoppe for five years & will continue to do so. The Float Shoppe also gives generous discounts on bodywork services for float members. The staff is consistent and are great. Some of the staff are still there since I first met them five years ago. They are treated well by the owners.
I’ve also had a membership at Float On in SE Portland on and off for a couple of years. Their member rate is $54 for a monthly 90 min float. Additional floats are the same price and friends and family of the members get the same member price.
I have done about 230 floats, mostly at The Float Shoppe, and many at Float On.
I have only hit bottom one time at Float On. I have hit bottom two times at Float Shoppe. This is out of hundreds of floats.
In contrast, I have hit bottom every single time I’ve been at Soak Box. I will not be going back due to this and the fact that the floats are only 60 minutes. Oftentimes my most profound experiences happen in the last 30 minutes of a 90 minute soak.
Floating for me is vital. I need to be able to actually float to get the benefits of resetting my nervous system. Also with hitting bottom at Soak Box it is basically like lying in a shallow tub of water and is pointless.
There are two factors missing: they are not using enough Epsom salt in the water and the water is way too low.
I had my 4th float today and I went because it was pre-paid. I was given a second floatation donut and was told it was for my back. This is not a solution to my larger sized body being unable to float.
The owner told me they use 24 inches of water. I measured it myself each time and it’s about 12 inches.
I float in the exact style of tank at Float On and have only hit bottom the one time.
I hope Soak Box can figure this out so that it is a welcome and inclusive environment for people of all sizes.
I also don’t like that they require you to wear their spa sandals. I need to wear my own shoes due to mobility issues.i was told...
Read moreMy three sisters and I had the amazing experience of "shutting the box" to enjoy a much-needed private and relaxing time! We were warmly and enthusiastically welcomed by Katie and Amy, and their service was immaculate. Katie thoroughly explained each room to us and ensured we were stocked up on makeup wipes, towels, robes, and much more. I started in the Fire & Ice room and ended with the Salt Soak, which, in my opinion, was the way to go! The contrast therapy between the sauna and cold plunge was everything my body needed to feel detoxed yet elevated and boosted. My first plunge was literally 15 seconds long, but it got better each time! Already feeling so relaxed, Amy was quick to set up the Salt Soak for my next session, and I quickly felt at ease as soon as I started my float. The music and stars were calming, and as soon as I closed my eyes, my body felt like it was drifting and transcending into space—lol! We ended with the dry bar and a complimentary hot tea to warm up our tummies. It was unanimous that we loved, loveedddd this experience! Coming home, I had the best sleep I’ve had in weeks! 5 stars, 10 stars if possible! Will definitely visit again! Thank you,...
Read moreI've never had a more relaxing experience than Soak Box's float room. But first, the whole space is so comfortable, the staff are very friendly and make the whole experience from the minute to walk in wonderful. I felt welcomed and informed and they provided just enough customer service without hovering or making it uncomfortable. The private float room was better than expected, with private shower and changing area. Now, about floating, it was so relaxing, I may have fallen asleep. It was the closest I've been to achieving peace. I highly recommend! If I lived closer I would make it a monthly (or more frequent) self-care treat. Thank...
