We are so glad we gave this place a second chance! Are sewing group has monthly “retreats “wear a swimming get together for the weekend, exchange, sewing tips, eat great food, have great drinks, and bond! When we dine out there’s usually between 15 to 20 of us so we always make sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Last time we tried this location a month or two ago we just didn’t have a great experience. Our waiter was a young guy who just didn’t seem to understand what it meant to be in the service industry.… Some people just aren’t made for it. I know I’m not! The food was great last time, it took forever to get the right meal, but like I said, the service was poor enough that we had planned on not returning to this location. Unfortunately & fortunately this weekend we forgot to make a reservation ahead of time so the old church was the only place that could accommodate us with such short notice. We went into this meal with no expectations. We knew we would get great food we just hope that it wouldn’t be as chaotic and hectic as it was last time. The guy that served us last time made us feel like we were putting him out when we asked for separate checks or asked for refills. He made some Off colored jokes, he’s young, he probably thought he was being Debbonaire, but he was really more insulting. Tonight we showed up for our reservation over 30 minutes early, so we figured we would have to wait but when we came in the Lovely manager took us upstairs right away and when we got there our beautiful waitress, Carrie was already setting our table. She did not seem annoyed or put out when her manager told her that we were 30 minutes early. She seemed excited! Only about half of us were there, but she gave us the rundown on the specials and took our drink and appetizer orders. we all ordered either a beer or cocktail, I had the high furnace and it was spectacular. Based on previous experience, we figured we would wait at least 30 minutes before we got our drinks since there were so many. Within five minutes Carrie was back at our table with waters for everyone and she let us know she was going to go get our drinks now. Within 10 minutes we all had our drinks and we were starving. Our whole party wasn’t here, but we asked if we could order and Carrie accommodated. Our food was at our table so fast! I don’t know exactly how long it took because we were talking and drinking, but it seemed very fast. The thing that really impressed us was carrie did not interrupt our conversations asking us what we ordered. She impressively but quietly set each meal in front of us without disturbing us there was a little confusion with one of our burgers, but it was quickly figured out. I don’t know how she remembered what each of us were eating, but she did! Not once did any of us have to ask for refills or condiments or anything else. She seemed to know what we needed before we knew what we needed. And the cherry on top was when she came to the table with 15 separate checks and quietly and efficiently handed each of us our check and they were all correct! She then proceeded to take everyone’s payment, she had two machines with her, talk about efficient! Great food, great atmosphere, great music, GREAT SERVICE! We will be back! Hopefully we can request to have Carrie as our waitress for all our...
Read moreThis year we decided to change locations for our annual group reunion and we are so glad we did! Normally, we do our yearly get together at Oswego Grill, but they did not have space to accommodate all 25 of us so we ended up at the McMenamins location this year. We are a group of gospel musicians who have worked together over the span of 40 years and we can get a little loud and rowdy. It started off great when they put us in our own room in the back of the restaurant. And then we met our waitress Cari. She informed us that she was in training and we promised to take it easy on her. If she hadn’t told us this, we would have never known! Not only because she clearly knew what she was doing and handled all 25 of us with ease and grace, but also because we didn’t see someone training her. She helped us navigate the menu and pointed us towards what she thought we might like. Two of our members have celiac and Carrie knew exactly what they could and couldn’t eat. We actually started playing a game to see if our cups were ever empty. It’s something we have done over the years at restaurants just out of fun and to make a light of the fact that we were thirsty. But not once were we ever thirsty with Carrie. She kept our coffee mugs full our water is full, and she checked on us a lot! When she noticed that we were trying to listen to one of our members new songs, she showed us that we could close the door so we can make some more noise. As someone who has worked in the service industry… Many many many years ago… I was worried for her when it came time to pay because we were scattered all over and had quite a few different checks. Again, Carrie handled it with the ease and grace of a professional. Our entire visit there was flawless from beginning to end. When she noticed that some of us were not done visiting, she pointed out the back area. I think it was called the undercroft where we could go and sit by the fire pits and visit more. This will probably be our new yearly place to gather. All thanks Carrie! I know we all tipped very generously so we hope that she knows how well she did. But if not, I hope she reads this review.
EDIT: My wife and I came back again this weekend and Requested Cari as our server and she did not waiver from her previous amazing performance! What a great addition to...
Read moreMy wife and I have been coming here regularly ever since it opened years ago… It’s actually the place we had our first date. We are not regular review writers or anything. But after talking about it… Having a few drinks… And then finding ourselves still talking about her when we get home, we figured we should give her a shout out! They have a few new girls there but we just want to talk about one. Her name is Cari, sorry if that’s misspelled, I know a lot of of with the same names for some reason at this restaurant so just to clarify, I am talking about the more mature woman with blonde hair, who is always smiling. She is such a great addition to this location and I hope her management recognizes how much of an asset she has already become. It’s hard to put into words, it’s actually probably going to sound weird, but the times we come into dine and she is there. It feels like a completely different vibe! Does that make sense? Like it’s not just her smiling face and willingness to help and really her weirdly psychic abilities to seem to know what we need before we even know we need it but everyone that’s working seems to be in a better mood. we could be giving way too much power to one person, but we have experienced her presence while eating there three times now and both of us agree that it feels like a completely different experience! We are both enthralled with watching her when we’re there… Again I know this sounds weird… But that girl gets around the restaurant nonstop with a smile on her face while sweat is on her brow. She is definitely under utilized as a hostess. But it’s clear she doesn’t let that title. Stop her from doing whatever needs to be done. She’s witty and quick with the jokes while at the same time acting like she already knows this. Every time we come in and see her, we ask her if she’s going to be our waitress this time And with a smile on her face, she responds not yet but soon hopefully… So we just wanted to give our opinions as very regular guests that we would love for her to be our waitress! The food here is consistently amazing. The service here is consistently amazing and she just makes it that...
