The Ballroom at 1808 — Attraction in Woodlawn

This place wasn't the worst but could be a bit better. The parking wasn't the greatest due to several other stores in this little center. The place was rather small but enough for our little gathering. Amenities were ok but could be improved. Floors potentially could be upgraded or repaired. Fridge is very small so don't have things that may require space to be kept cool. It needed to be clean before we could even use it. Tables were stained a lot so definitely have tablecloths to hide the grunginess. The sinks are deep and divided but can deter one from placing food in it just from the wear and tear of it. Very small counter space so it's really compacted. Bathrooms were very narrow so be mindful if requiring changing clothes while there. No where to hang you clothes. The good thing is that there are 2 so that does help. The back part was a little untidy as I assume that's the disposal area. The good thing is that the guy did help with the tables and chairs a bit and allowed us grace at the ending by taking the remainder one's down. There is a dance floor so that is a plus. I reached out to the owner (Dennis) to inquire about the ballroom on a specific date. I asked if I could do a walk through and also asked how can I reserve the space. He replied and said I can schedule a date and time for a walk through and we could do a contract then if I decide. I received a message from him less than a week later (on the day of my walk through, 3 hours before ...) explaining that someone had booked the day that I wanted. He never explained to me that this would be a possibility. He never explained that he cannot hold a date. If he were more clear, I would have made a deposit or attempted to do a walk through earlier. His website does not state any of this and neither did he explain this to me. Very unprofessional. Now I have to try to look elsewhere for a venue and the event is a little less than two months away. I am definitely going to have another event here. About a month before my husbands birthday I decided to throw him a surprise birthday party. From the time I called to inquire about the hall rental, up to the day of my event, my experience was amazing. The young lady who took my phone call was very sweet. She answered every question I had, and if it was something that she wasn't sure about, she called me back within minutes with an answer. When I went to view the hall, I was greeted by Dennis. He showed me my options and even got a DJ for my event. He was very humble and patient.
