This is actually the museum of La Cumparista. Before Palacio Salvo was built, the original site was a local music bar. The author of La Cumparista was Gerardo Matos Rodríguez, who played his music here in this bar for the first time. La Cumparista has been the symbol of tango since then. Back then there was no woman allowed in the bar. The name originates from Spanish word comparisa. -sta means small. It should be Comparista. But he wrote it as Cumparista. This is probably due to the Cocoliche language, a mixture of Spanish and Italian. Anyway this is a good...

Visiting the musium is allowed only for 20 min and inside of it there was only one small room to see. The staff said in the tour English is spoken so I took it. The staff gave me a little explanation of the tango history but she did not speak English well and also didn't have experience of tango dance. For me it's like a joke. I was so disappointed because the musium was the reason why I went to monte video. Not much to see, not much to know, no worth...

You can't go inside unless you have a tour of Palacio Salvo. The Museo Del Tango itself is basically just one and a half rooms. It's very small. It's merely there to serve as a tribute to what was there before the palace was built. So don't expect anything huge or grand. It's a token and just part of the palace tour.

A charismatic young woman, gave us lots of information regarding Tango and La Comparsita written by Gerardo Matos Rodriguez ( his educated sister listened to her ill brother's humming the notes but she wrote it ) I was surpised to hear that way back, Tango was forbidden to women. Vhuntermassage LLC
