🕌 Abdulaziz Khan Madrassah – The Jewel of Bukhara’s Architectural Revival 📍 Location: Bukhara, Uzbekistan (opposite Ulugh Beg Madrassah) 📅 Built: 1652 👑 Commissioned by: Abdulaziz Khan – Ruler of the Ashtarkhanid (Janid) dynasty

✨ Highlights of Abdulaziz Khan Madrassah: Striking Architecture One of Bukhara’s most ornate and richly decorated madrasahs, it showcases a blend of traditional Timurid style and Safavid-influenced Persian motifs.

Intricate Ornamentation Famous for its colorful glazed tiles, carved mosaics, and muqarnas (stalactite vaulting) – an artistic marvel in every corner.

Unique Façade Its monumental entrance (pishtaq) features calligraphic inscriptions, floral patterns, and majestic arches, reflecting 17th-century artistic zenith in Bukhara.

Interior Wonder Inside, visitors will find beautifully decorated lecture halls and prayer rooms with dazzling tilework and carved plaster.

Twin to Ulugh Beg Madrassah Built nearly two centuries after the Ulugh Beg Madrassah (opposite it), it serves as a fascinating contrast in architectural evolution and ambition.

🌍 Why Visit? A showcase of Islamic art and the grandeur of the Janid era

Perfect for lovers of art, architecture, and history

A key stop on the Silk Road heritage trail

Offers stunning photography opportunities...

Buxoroda olib borilgan arxeologik qazish ishlaridan olingan ashyoviy dalillarga koʻra, qadimda hozirgi eski shahar atrofidan kengligi 100—120 metr boʻlgan daryo oqib oʻtgan. Bu daryo oʻzani oʻrnida oʻrta asrlarda bir nechta meʼmoriy yodgorliklar qatorida Abdulazizxon madrasasi ham boʻy choʻzgan

Saroy meʼmori Mimxoqon ibn Xoʻja Muhammadamin tomonidan 1652-yilda qurilgan. Abdulazizxon madrasasining qurilishi bilan bogʻliq bizgacha yetib kelgan bir rivoyatga koʻra, hukmdor Abdulazizxon 6-marta Makka-yu Madinaga hajga joʻnabdi. Qurdiradigan meʼmoriy obidangda boqiy va foniy dunyo oʻz ifodasini topsin. Asrlar osha xalq undan bahramand boʻlib, seni yodga olsin“, — debdi.

Abdulazizxon safardan qaytganidan keyin Buxorodagi barcha koʻzga koʻringan ustalarni chaqirib, meʼmoriy obida qurishni va bu obidaning devorlaridagi bezaklar bir-biridan farq qilishi kerakligini, shu bilan birgalikda, devorlardan birida oʻzining siymosi ham aks ettirilishini aytibdi va „Aytgan shartlarim oʻz vaqtida bajarilmasa, boshlaringizni tanangizdan judo qilaman“, — debdi.

Biroq, oʻsha davrda odam rasmini chizish taʼqiqlaniga qaramay, usta-meʼmorlar bor hunarlarini ishga solib, Abdulazizxon aytgan madrasani qurishga kirishibdilar. Bu meʼmoriy obida asta-sekinlik bilanyerdan qad koʻtara boshlabdi. Oradan bir necha vaqt oʻtgandan soʻng meʼmoriy obidaning maʼlum bir qismi qurib bitkazilibdi.

Abdulazizxon oʻzi qurdirayotgan obidaning bir qismi qad rostlaganini eshitib, bu joyga tashrif buyuribdi. Ustalar madrasani Abdulazizxon aytganidan ham ziyoda qilib qurishgan ekan. Abdulazizxon madrasasiga kirib, ustalarning ishini koʻzdan kechirib, oʻng tomondagi xonaqoh tarafga qarab yuribdi. U xonaqohning janubiy devoriga ilon va chayonlar surati ishlangan boʻlib, bu foniy dunyoning mashaqqatlari haqida maʼlumot berarkan. Shimoliy qismida tasvirlangan chizgilar esa bu foniy dunyoning azob-uqubatlariga bardosh beradigan odamlarga boqiy dunyo jannat eshiklari ochiqligidan dalolat berarkan. Xonaqohning gʻarbiy devoriga ishlangan 2 ta ayiq surati mansab va boylik yaratgan tomonidan odamlarni sinab koʻrish uchun berilishini anglatsa, devorning sharqiy qismida boylik va mansabga berilib, xudoni unutmaslik haqida oyatlar bitilgan ekan.

Abdulazizxon ustalarning mahoratini koʻrib, bir tomondan quvonibdi, ikkinchi tomondan esa oʻzining surati ishlanmaganligidan jahli chiqibdi va meʼmorga qarab: „Nega mening suratimni chizmading, endi boshingni tanangdan judo qilaman!“, — debdi. Shunda meʼmor Abdulazizxonni xonaqoh eshigidan tashqariga olib chiqibdi va devorning gʻarbiy qismida chizilgan mehrob ichidagi bir dasta gul tasviriga sinchikovlik bilan qarashni soʻrabdi. Abdulazizxon qarasaki, bir dasta gulda uning siymosi gavdalanib turgan emish. Abdulazizxon yana bir marotaba ustaning mahoratiga...

Unpolished Beauty! Just east of the Toqi Zargaron is the kosh ensemble of the Ulughbeg and Abdulaziz Khan madrasas. Of these two madrasas, the larger Abdulaziz Khan Madrasa is the younger. The madrasa dating from 1651-52 is the last of Bukhara's grandiose madrasas. As the decorations have become much more sophisticated over the centuries, and also because Abdulaziz Khan wanted his madrasa to surpass the opposite Ulughbeg Madrasa in beauty, the difference in character between the two buildings is obvious. The Abdulaziz Khan Madrasa is much more elaborately decorated with mukarnas, plaster and painting. One of the highlights of Bukhara!
