Monument of Independence.
Standing proudly at the heart of Tashkent’s Independence Square, the Monument of Independence is one of Uzbekistan’s most iconic landmarks. Originally constructed during the Soviet era, the square and its central monument were transformed following the country’s independence in 1991. Today, the monument symbolizes the sovereignty and national pride of the Uzbek people.
The main structure consists of a tall white marble column topped with a globe, representing Uzbekistan's place in the global community. At the base of the column sits a sculpted figure of a mother cradling her child—an emblem of peace, the future, and the nation’s enduring values. This blend of traditional symbolism and modern aspirations makes the monument a powerful national statement.
Surrounding the monument is Mustaqillik Maydoni (Independence Square), a spacious public space filled with green gardens, fountains, and government buildings. The area is ideal for a reflective walk and offers a tranquil atmosphere despite being in the city center. It is also a site of national ceremonies and important public events.
Whether visited by day or illuminated at night, the Monument of Independence is a must-see for anyone exploring Tashkent. It offers not only impressive architecture and symbolic richness but also insight into Uzbekistan’s journey as a modern,...
