The emperors reading room is one of rhetoric few buildings that weren't destroy during the war... either by the red army, or the French's. Now days is under reconstruction, so you can't get in... but you can appreciate Tejera beautiful hand-crafted work of the exterior, specially the roofs

The old library and reading room of the emperor. The reading room has some artefacts but it’s missing the bookshelves and what was once the library has now been turned into a souvenir shop. It’s still a must see place when you are inside the citadel and the forbidden city already.

Thái Bình Lâu được vua Khải Định ra lệnh xây dựng vào năm 1919, đến năm 1921 thì hoàn thành để nhà vua có thể nghĩ ngơi lúc rảnh rang, cũng là chỗ để nhà vua đọc sách. Công trình là một tòa nhà kép, gồm tiền sảnh, chính doanh, hậu doanh nối liền nhau bằng hai máng thoát nước. Mặt nền cao hơn đất 1m, mặt trước là bốn cột xây bằng gạch trát vữa. Phía trước có 3 chữ Thái Bình Lâu và hai bên là hai bài văn do vua Khải Định ngự chế. Sau tiền sảnh là chính doanh. Đây là một ngôi nhà 2 tầng cao 9.55m, mái được lợp bằng ngói âm dương tráng men vàng với nhiều trang trí rất đẹp và lộng lẫy như hình những con dơi tượng trưng cho Ngũ Phúc và hai bờ nóc đắp nổi hai hình hồi long đầy uy lực. Hậu doanh có 3 gian, 2 chái, mái lợp ngói liệt, hai đầu hồi có đắp nổi đề tài Hải ốc thiêm trù với hình ảnh ba ông già chúc thọ cho nhau.

Thái Bình Lâu (Pabellón Real de Lectura) es un edificio de madera de dos pisos ubicado en el área noreste de la Ciudad Púrpura Prohibida. El Pabellón Real de Lectura fue construido entre 1919 y 1921 durante el reinado del emperador Khải Định. Esta casa, de 9,55 m de altura, tiene un techo de paja que representa el yin y el yang. También son de gran interés las magníficas decoraciones de esmalte dorado en el techo. El Pabellón Real de Lectura permaneció casi intacto durante la guerra y hoy sus puertas están abiertas a los turistas.
