Location We chose this resort due to its location, i.e. Phu Quoc center. The location made it convenient to come and go from the resort with many nearby seafood restaurants, convenience stores and walking distance to the night market and some nighttime 'sunset bars' including the Sunset Beach Bar that has a 10pm fire show.

The Beach. Due to its city location, I was worried the beach would not be good or clean. I was pleasantly surprised that I only saw one piece of plastic on the beach in 5 days. The sand was clean, the water clean, no hidden rocks in the water (just a pebble here and there). The palm trees and beach umbrellas offer sunny or shady positioning and the attendants will move loungers to suit the needs of the guests.

The Room- Beach Front with Private Pool The room was a good size with sofa, working desk, mini-bar, comfortable firm bed (not too soft, not too hard), very large bathroom with 2 x basins and bathtub with separate toilet and shower. The furnishing style of the room is a bit eclectic, because they have renovated and added new furniture with the old furniture. So it's an interesting mix of old and new. Some would say mix and match, but I thought it was quite charming. It was very clean and included evening turn down service. I am happy that we booked the pool villa as having the option of being able to easily go back and forth between our pool and the beach (3 meters) made it a very special experience. My main suggestion to improve the room would be to add a suitcase rack to put the suitcase open and easily accessible. I made one myself using a chair and one of the 3 x coffee tables but I think they could easily make one in the room permanently.

The Main Pool. It was clean and well maintained but in fact the beach area is so nice that it is the first choice for most guests at the resort. For example at Sol Melia the beach is so-so and the pool is amazing. At L'Azure it is the opposite. The beach is beautiful and the main pool is so-so. The pool has a swim up bar but it was never open. On the contrary, at sunset time at L'Azure. all the guests were at the beach ordering cocktails and enjoying the beautiful sunset views.

The staff and the service. Service is a big strong point at the resort. From the moment we arrived I felt the service was very personalized and continued for the entire stay. I have the feeling that staff at this resort are very well experienced in dealing with foreign guests. In fact 95% of the guests that were there during our stay were Europeans. English was well spoken by all the staff that we encountered.

The Food Breakfast was a buffet in the main restaurant. It was never full or overcrowded and has plenty of choices for Asian and European tastes. My friend, that often complains about egg stations at other resorts was impressed that the egg station was able to cook well done over-easy fried eggs. Lunch - Our package included a set menu lunch. We chose the Vietnamese lunch which included beef salad, spinach and pork soup, rice, mackerel fish, morning glory, some spicy chicken and one other dish that I forget and well as a fruit plate. This set-menu was surprisingly good and again, my Vietnamese friend that often complains about the food at other resorts complimented it. Dinner We did not eat dinner there as we wanted to try the nearby local places including the famous Tám Nắng seafood BBQ restaurant which is now located just across the road from the resort.

Room Service / Beach Menu Offers reasonably priced western and Asian choices. Cocktails on the beach at sunset was a highlight.

Final Thoughts. There is no doubt that this place is older in comparison with the newer resorts on Phu Quoc and is from a bygone era when tourism on Phu Quoc was in its beginnings. Perhaps it was one of the first ever resorts on Phu Quoc. Personally, I found its age and 'history' to be charming and well established. With age comes experience and L'Azure is very well managed with experienced, caring and attentive staff. I give it 9/10 and will stay there again next time I visit Phu Quoc.
