The location is wonderful if you want to do touristy things around Buenos Aires. It is right on Avenida de Mayo and 2 minute walk from the nearest Sube station. There is also a bus stop right in front. It is very easy to walk to plaza congreso, 5 min. And 10 minutes in completely opposite directions to Plaza de Mayo and Teatro Colon. If you want to get to Palermo, it is a bit of a hike, but easily doable. ||The hostel is 3 in 1 with 3 different levels of service. I was in the Premium, first floor. The building looks like an old apartment building. There are many fine details within the rooms. The craftsmanship and details in the ceiling was brilliant. The room was quite large for a 4 bed dorm. However, there were few outlets, and only 1 working near the beds. While there was plenty of space, 2 of the roommates had moved in, one for over a month, and hardly left space for others. In fact, when I checked in all 4 beds were "occupied", 2 by people and 2 by stuff. Once I did move in, they cleaned up a touch and removed their stuff from the other beds. There is air conditioning, but it does not work well when one roommate insists on keeping the windows open as well. I cannot fault the hostel for this at all. ||The fourth roommate had friends spread out through the hostel, and chose to use our room as the party, get ready, bathroom, whatever for the group. I mentioned to the front that there was a parade of people using our toilet and shower all evening, and they had a talk with the offending roommate. I was very happy that they were able to put a stop to this behavior. They could not stop all of the rudeness by guests though. It was something quite shocking. In the kitchen at breakfast, some guests double dipped and used their fingers to access the dulce de leche. They also left their dirty dishes on the table, despite requests in multiple languages to clean up after ones self. Again, I have never seen such disrespect by guests, but any complaint I was aware of, the hostel...
Read moreStayed here in late December with a few friends. We had booked a basic four bed dorm on hostelworld several months ahead at ARS150 a bed per night.||The hostel was located on Avenida de Mayo and is in a 100 year old building. Terraza Estoril is located on level 6. Estoril also had a youth hostel on level 3 and a premium hostel on level 1. There is an old elevator which takes you up to the 6th floor. The location was terrific, being very central.||The room was basic. Bunk beds and some lockers. What was great about the room was that there was a balcony which looked out onto the avenue and you could see many of the historical buildings from your room. It would have been nice if there were a few chairs on the balcony to sit and enjoy the view at night. The room does not have air conditioning, only a fan from the ceiling and a standing fan. Being the middle of summer we sweated throughout the night. The tv/lounge common area is the only air conditioned room.||One of the great things about Terraza Estoril is the access to the roof top area. Has great views and is a great place to sit and have a drink.||The staff were also great. Very friendly, showed us a map and gave us advice on everything from money exchange to restaurants and activities. Definitely helped to make our stay in Buenos Aires more enjoyable.||The location, service make me want to definitely recommend this place and the building and balcony certainly have it's charm. But if you're staying in summer, sweating it out all night was not very pleasant. Perhaps trying Estorils hostels on the lower levels where we heard there was more air con may be...
Read moreIt's confusing when you first arrive, as it's not clear which floor you are meant to go on. I went in to the hostel and was told that I'd been moved to a different floor as an "upgrade". Not sure how much of an upgrade it was when I saw the dated room with peeling wallpaper and rusty sink. I was told there was a rooftop terrace bar but when I went upstairs it was two guys staying on the upper level who after looking around for 10 minutes told me that they didn't have any drinks for me to buy but I could still sit upstairs if I wanted. There were a few chairs up there but it felt a bit dingy and I didn't stay.||The rooms are a good size but the beds are small and I think the girls staying in my room had been living there a while. I didn't get the vibe of it being a very social place and I didn't have an actual conversation with any other guests.||In my room there was a loud fan machine which was directly open to the outside street on a busy road so it was really loud in the room. The balconies advertised are small Juliet balconies that you can't actually step out on to.||The breakfast was disappointing: coffee, bread, jam and dulce de leche. You can pay extra for eggs and I assume someone comes in to cook them for you though maybe you have to cook them yourself. You're better off buying your own stuff or going to a cafe.||The location is pretty good and the staff were really nice. I wouldn't stay here again if returning to BA, but it was a fine place to rest my head when visiting...
