It’s a bit out of the way. I chose public transport as I am a greenie I suppose, and also object to the way infrastructure is slanted away from people using the cheaper public option. The out of the wayness I see as a challenge-can I work the system how I want it. There were many obstacles in the way- transitPerth planner listed Perth Domestic terminal - but this was wrong-it was the Qantas domestic terminal, and I flew in on Virgin which put me at the less accessible option of terminal 2 the other ‘domestic’ terminal. I followed signs for buses, the train would take nearly an hour and there were disruptions apparently. All led to nought, and I walked several km in the airport precinct, until I saw ‘shuttle bus to terminal 3/4. Waited a long time-there was some bloke whinging about all the naughty prowling illegal Ubers, blocking the traffic which was probably why it was taking so long. Caught the shuttle, got to the other terminals and walked the 1 km or so to the bus stop- I saw the bus round the corner as I was crossing the nearest road, started running to try to catch it…but I am not much of a runner these days, and in any case he kept going, even though I was sure the stop was not far….turns out I had run past it. It was just a small post in the side of the road. Easily missed. So then I waited. Once in the bus I paid my $5.20 in exact change and used google maps to make sure I got off at exactly the right stop.
The walk to Crown Promenade is not designed for walking from the bus stop. Navigating the nearby traffic lights adds on an unnecessary few hundred meters behind forcing you to the far side of the lights then taking you back in the direction you came from. It seems deliberate but it’s probably optimised for the huge volume of traffic coming from the casino….
I ramble I know. But it was a long journey and I was lucky in that I really didn’t have time constraints and was ready, if not eager to overcome the challenges thrown at me and wanted to get that off my chest. I got to the hotel about 2 hours later than I should have owing to that ‘domestic terminal’ issue. And if the transport system was perfect, which it never can be, would have saved another half hour. But questions remain- why does the public bus not go through the airport. Why is the public bus stop in a darkened street so far from the airport that few people will use it. Why isn’t the pedestrian footpaths set up for pedestrians. We are a car dominated society-it is the hegemony of the ‘petrol-heads’. gas-heads I guess if you are American. It is far easier to use cars ( and part with your hard earned money ) than to use the less environmentally impactful option and healthier option of walking and public transport. We could do better but I guess there is no will-or not enough. As Bo Burnham says in his song ‘That Funny Feeling’ ‘we were overdue’. And we are-as you reap so...
Read moreMy partner and I stayed here for the WWE Elimination chamber event, as it was something close by and convenient for travel to and from Optus Stadium, it took us about 10-15 minutes to walk which is something we definitely wanted. In terms of getting to the city, it is about 4 train stops away which isn’t too bad either! So location was pretty good, you are in your own little area so it does feel like a private resort. Reception is great and super friendly, had us checked in, in under 5 minutes, so super speedy. Our room had a flickering light in the bathroom but that isn’t too bad, just needs a new bulb or maybe some new wiring but all in all, the room was super spacious, and we got to overlook the casino which was nice, no outside noise from the room either which was a huge plus! My only downfall was housekeeping. There are signs you put on your door to let them know you want housekeeping, as they’re trying to cut down for environmental reasons which is great, but I don’t understand why, when I don’t have the sign on the door, housekeeping came and knocked on the door, I was getting changed so told them to hang on, to which they knocked the door another 4 times before attempting to come in!! Good thing I had the lock on the door, otherwise my privacy would’ve been completely evaded. Not only did that happen once, but it happened a second time on day of checkout, where the guy wanted to check the mini fridge, knocked once, we told him we’d be just a minute and again, he just unlocked the door and tried to barge in, once again as we’re changing, getting ready to leave. This is a massive invasion of privacy on the staffs part, and I believe they need to go through more training on how to treat guests when they’re renting a room in their facility. I’ve stayed at Melbourne Crown Metropol before and it was 5 stars all around, I understand Metropol is a step up from Promenade, but thought the service in Perth would be on par considering it’s the same company but no, it was quite concerning twice. If it happened just the once, I probably would’ve let it slide, but the fact that it happened twice with two different staff members just shows the lack of concern for guests privacy. Overall the stay was good, but I probably wouldn’t stay at Crown Promenade Perth again until staff go through some...
Read moreI provided this info to the hotel last week and got a cut and paste response.
I visited last year and stayed in Crown Towers. This time I booked Promenade without realising the significant difference between the 2. I arrived on Sunday and gave my car to the Valet and checked in. The staff were quite lovely, no dramas there. As i walked to my room there were a few wine buckets etc in the hall (not unusual except it was well into the afternoon at this stage) and 2 wineglasses against the wall next to my door. They were still there this morning (3 days later). I came out later for dinner to find my car sitting on the forecourt in a parking space - shouldn't it have been securely undercover somewhere?
I first went into my room and there was light reflecting from one of the nearby Crown buildings making the room very bright and quite warm compared to the hallway so I had to close the blockout curtains. I then noticed the sign on the bed advising that if I wanted my room made up I had to hang the sign on the door by 2am. This sign keeps falling off the knob. I called room service to ask for a bucket of ice and was told that there were Ice machines on Levels 3 and 7. These last 2 things should be mentioned before/at booking time. I used the QR Code in the room to try to find this information under amenities but it just goes to your site which sheds no light whatsoever.
In my bathroom there is a yellow mark/stain along the join between the wall and tub, a chipped/cracked tile above the tap and the water pressure and temperature fluctuate whilst showering. The design of the shower screen is counter intuitive and makes the space feel quite constrictive and just unpleasant, especially with the wall mounted dispensers - move them just 30cm further along the wall and the shower wouldn't...
