Once loved, I'm afraid I will never return here to eat again. I had previously had a bad experience here where my dinner order was taken home in the waiter's apron pocket (see below), but still gave 5 stars based on how the mishap was handled. Well, after the fiasco I exeprienced last night, I have no option but to update the review to 1 star.
Despite the previous mishap, 3 years later we had a special occasion to celebrate and decided to give Bistro Guillame another chance. Their food had always been great and we had such fond memories of going there. We had an 8pm booking and were promptly seated. We placed our entree and main order after 15 minutes and we delighted when the first course arrived very quickly. It was quite delightful and very well cooked. However, that was the last compliment I can give unfortunately. After our plates where cleared, we proceeded to sit and wait for an hour for our mains. We watched all the tables around us get their food despite having ordered before them. Finally I got the attention of the waitress and informed her we had not received our meals. She said she was aware and that they were coming out very quickly. This was a complete lie. She had no idea we were still waiting. She had paid no attention to us and immediately the manager became involved. The manager then approached to apologise, or so we thought, as she then proceeded to apologise to the table behind us for the delay, even though they were seated around an hour after us! The meals then arrived after around 10 minutes. It was so disappointing. I have included a photo of my $56 300-day grain fed sirloin that could be mistaken for a meal previously served up by Sizzler. It was grey and unappetising. I had ordered medium-rare and when I cut into it and saw it had been cooked to well-done, I audibly laughed and looked over at the waitress. She immediately knew something was wrong and rushed over. I showed her the problem and she took it back to the kitchen. The manager finally made her way to over to the table and I explained this was a repeat of our last experience and that it wasn't acceptable. She agreed and said the mains would be free of charge. My steak eventually arrived 15 minutes later, which I then sat and ate as my husband watched on, having finished his meal already. It was on the rare side but that was far better than the previous option. I had a few bites and it was fine, but I was no longer hungry as it was now after 10pm. It was definitely not worth $56. I felt enraged having to still pay $130 for our 2 entrees and 2 drinks. I felt as though the only way to salvage a waste our of time like that was to comp the entire meal. But I guess they are a business, and they already knew there was no way in hell we would ever be returning, so better to get what little money they could.
All in all....bad food cooked by bad "chefs" served by rather incompetent staff. Definitely find better elsewhere!
Previous Review We have been to Bistro Guillaume many times and it never fails to impress. This time we were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary and thought we would treat ourselves. The food was spectacular and everything was delicious.
We had a small hiccup with service. Our original waiter seemed to go home for the night, taking our order docket with him in his pocket apparently. It was 40 minutes before it was realised by the staff that we had no food, nor did we have any on the way. We must praise Bec, the amazing woman who greeted us at the door and who seemed to be doing every job in the restaurant! She recognised the issue, explained it to us, and rectified it very efficiently. Our food came out very promptly once sorted. She also organised a small treat of hand-made chocolates on a plate decorated with "happy anniversary" in melted chocolate. A lovely gesture. She also refused to let us pay for a large portion of the meal, admitting it was their mistake and this was how they would rectify it. We insisted it was fine as we had had such a wonderful night anyway, but she wouldn't take no...
Read moreMore than a little underwhelmed with this restaurant, and then when talking to others, found they felt the same which i wish I'd known about before i booked this for my birthday dinner with my husband. Its the only restaurant in the Crown Premium Dining options that i hadn't tried, so decided that my birthday was the night to do so given we were up from the country and staying at Crown Towers.
I was confident that it was a good choice given we were greeted warmly and shown to our table, but from there it went downhill. Our waiter was missing in action for a lot of the time and after asking if we wanted water, seemed to forget to bring it. It came once we asked for it again. There was a long gap before he came back asking if we wanted a drink, which we did, and thankfully that came after another fairly lengthy delay. He didn't ask if we wanted entree, when he eventually made his way back, but asked what we wanted for our mains? He didn't make any suggestions of what is a good menu choice, didn't tell us what the fish was until we asked and like i indicated didn't ask if we wanted entree. Okay, well that's your loss because by then we were feeling a little underwhelmed with him and his vibe, which was basically that he wanted to be anywhere but there. The people next to us had to wave to get his attention for more drinks. The food came and whilst nice, it wasn't Wow factor like some of the other restaurants in the complex. I ordered steak and hubby had duck. By now we had finished our alcoholic drink but there was no enquiry into whether we wanted another one. The waiter asked if we wanted to look at the dessert menu and we advised him we didn't but he didn't ask if we wanted another drink, even though it was obvious we were without one. Then we waited, for my birthday chocolates which were to come as part of the package we had booked. Ummm no, that didn't happen. When i enquired as to where they were, because by then we just wanted to go, he said oh ok I'll go order it. He then came back with a chocolate and a candle on a plate with Happy Birthday. Okay...... not the box that i was hoping for. I asked, i thought i get a box of chocolates? He said to me "can i see your card" rather rudely, so i showed him my card, and he eventually came back with the box of chocolates, and that was the last we saw of him. When we went to pay, the front of house guy asked, how was it, and i said average. He didn't even ask why. Maybe we got them on an off night. Would i go again? No, not unless they improve their service. However don't take my word for it, give it a...
Read moreWe chose Bistro Guillaume for my wife and my joint birthday dinner, and we found ourselves a fan of the venue after our first class experience. After reading the various recent negative reviews, I was a little apprehensive of the service & reception we would get for our first date night without our baby. However, we were quickly reassured that this would be a memorable night to remember for all the right reasons the moment we stepped in till the time we paid and left. We were made to feel welcomed and valued even though I only have the basic white Crown Rewards card status. Eric, our Maitre d’, was friendly and quick to help me validate my parking ticket the moment I presented my card and ticket when checking in. He was also very accommodating to grant our request for a beautiful private booth table with an open view of the oasis and pool. Having booked as our birthday, he promptly organised the complimentary sparkling wine & Crown chocolate gift box shortly after we were seated. They were also nice enough to replace my wife’s sparkling to a delicious mocktail after finding out she’s pregnant. Harsh was our waiter who serves us throughout the evening. He was knowledgeable, pleasant and more importantly, seems to enjoy his job. He even remembered my wife’s pregnancy while we were choosing dessert and warned us to avoid the one whipped in raw egg white (we would never have guessed that from the name choc Delish) Besides good culinary taste, another important measure of a fine dining when we are paying good $$ for is the service. And I am glad to say that Harsh excels in that area. He constantly checked in on us subtlety without being intrusive to make sure we are ok with the meal and service, and proactively offered us more bread to share. Meal wise, we had an overall enjoyable 3 course dinner. My wife loved the chicken liver parfait with grilled sourdough entree, and had the linguine crab mains which she found a tad bland. My beef tenderloin mains was delicious though would have loved a bit more jus. Our passionate soufflé was a nice touch with the birthday candle. The evening capped off nicely for us when Eric was patient and courteous with my payment with various Crown gift cards and also the discount with Entertainment App.
Happy wife, Happy Life!
