We attended the pre dinner show 15th oct 22. The food is delish, so hats off to chef and the kitchen staff but that’s unfortunately where this story ends. The wait staff and hostess are miserable and unfriendly and service is more like a chore and an inconvenience. At one point I thought, I maybe at Karen’s diner and not the crown, our highlight of this evening was when the server dropped an entire kids meal on the table, nuggets, chips and tomato sauce landing all over the table, it was a scene Jeffery Dahmer would’ve been proud of, I particularly enjoyed the part where I had to ask for the table to cleaned, only to be met with more sighs of inconvenience and a dirty microfibre cloth that had seen better days. COVID where, cross contamination, not here..
Being parched is an unwritten rule here at Market & Co, so be prepared to finish your entire meal before your beverage of choice arrives. Heaven forbid you should request one of the multiple jugs of water on offer because here water is like gold, even if you chose to pay for it, you are only allowed the quantity of water poured by the server, if ordering a bottle of sparkling water be prepared that a litre bottle can only fill a qtr of 3 small glasses, so if there’s four of you, well the fourth person just misses out.
Do not question this, as your met with blank stares and confusion, that will make you question your own sanity. This water is also the only drink that you may receive for a period of 25 mins, so make sure you ration it out and sip very slowly.
Better yet, pack your own, to avoid disappointment and dry mouth.
If your drinks don’t arrive at all and you cancel them, because it’s time for the show and to pay.. the hostess will stare at you and the table looking for those empty champagne glasses, because you are now a liar, she can tell because another unwritten rule at Market & Co is not to...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst experience at the Crown thus far I've had. Our reservation was for 7pm for two people. Got our orders in quite early and our drinks and starters arrived.
Thereafter it went downhill tenfold. No waiter/waitress came to our table to take away our plates / finished drinks. We had multiple staff eye our table and then walk on past non-chalantly. Even the floor supervisor paid us no attention even though we were clearly trying to get someone's attention for assistance.
One hour later and our mains still hadn't arrived. Even then still no attention evem though we made multiple eye contact with staff. Finally one staff member came by and I asked to clear the table which she did and then asked if we wanted the dessert menu even though clearly she had just picked up our STARTERS. I told her as such, we were still waiting for our mains. She looked surprised and then she walked away and I assumed she was going to follow it up, which inevitably wasn't the case as she just started talking and joking around with other staff.
Finally, I approached the reception desk to enquire why it was taking over an hour for two mains (Steak and Chips plus Chill Mussels), to which she said that she would check up on it.
Few minutes later she came by our table and explained that we were stuck behind a big table and that our food was delayed. Being delayed I can understand, but where is the communication? If we were told as such then we wouldn't be so damn anxious and upset. Instead we were ignored for an hour without any form of communication that it would take an extended period of time for service.
In the end I requested to cancel the mains to which they apologized and we left. As much as I wanted to really lay into them I also didn't want to cause a scene.
Really poor form Crown,...
Read moreSo we dined here last night having a pre show meal. We were concerned after reading some reviews as we do have reservations later in the year when we are staying at the Crown for the Pink concert and reviews were ‘mixed.’ I am pleased to report our concerns were unfounded and the meal was really good. Quick service to the table and water. The Pre-show menu had a good choice on it and we had drinks which were lovely- my expresso martini was one of the best I have had ( this is my go to drink when out so I have to say I have had a few …..) the starters arrived quickly - calamari and cauliflower which were hot and tasty as was the mains pork belly and fish. Portion size was good too. We did decide to do a sweet and these was decadent and very enjoyable - the restaurant filled quickly with others enjoying a preshow meal but the service continued to be spot on with the waiter returning to fill water glasses 3/4 times during the meal - each course arrived efficiently and quickly- if I could comment on anything I would say the waiting staff were slightly robotic and we did feel like a table number rather than a human being, like we were on a production - get them fed and out so we can use the table again and make more money….. i do tend to feel that down at the Crown anyway and the only place that I didn’t feel that push them through and out feeling was at Silks Restaurant! I am happy to report that the food was really good and our worries regarding quality...
