I think it is very silly that you have to order your drinks at a separate spot to your meals. Combined with very slow service at the bar, this resulted in my food making it to my table well before I did. The bar staff were also chatting to customers despite it being very busy and seemed to have no sense of urgency.
When I finally sat down to eat, I noticed my garlic bread was ice cold. After a while, I finally managed to flag down a member of the wait staff of which there weren’t very many.
I queried with wait staff if I could please have my garlic bread heated up as it had gone cold. They said they would have to ask a manager. They returned and said the manager said no. I asked to speak with him, and so he came and explained that heating it up was a health and safety issue.
I said in that case, could I please have fresh garlic bread be made instead? He said he could do that but they would add another plate of garlic bread to the bill. I was quite astounded by this.
I said that I should not have to pay for more garlic bread when it was their slow service that resulted in me not being able to eat my food hot. He refused and so I had to spell it out step by step what happened and make it very clear how it was their fault and not mine.
He eventually conceded and I had fresh garlic bread made. But I was tired of having to advocate for something so basic and common sense, and I wasn’t eating while I was speaking and so my lukewarm steak was now totally cold at this point.
My entire experience was just negative and it put a dampener on things.
Furthermore, the ‘new’ garlic bread was fairly burnt (especially round the edges) and so it was overly dry and tasted of charcoal (I did suspect it was maybe the same bread as before just heated up despite their objections).
I am all for the notion that customers are in fact NOT always correct and for wait staff being firm but fair, but the back and forth that I needed to have with the manager over what I maintain is very straight forward showed a lack of accountability and respect.
It was a very disappointing experience overall. My opinion is that the restaurant is poorly planned + arranged, poorly operated, and poorly managed.
I would love to come back one day if things improve, but only if. You should start with not letting that happen to begin with by letting people order at one spot and having things brought to them perhaps.
But ultimately, please just gear how you run your restaurant for what is a positive dining experience for...
Read moreThe female manager was very rude. She did not know how to communicate in a kind and respectful manner. She completely disregarded our table and she gave very bad customer service. My family and I have never been treated like this by a restaurant.
Firstly, they brought the wrong order to our table. We were simply trying to receive the order that we paid for. When we notified the staff that the order was wrong they told us they will bring the correct order. Time went by and they failed to bring the food to our table. Instead, we were told to leave because our time was up. They did not reconcile the issue and bring out the food that we ordered and paid for. We were also never informed about a time restriction on our table when we ordered the food. If the correct food was brought out in the first place we would have eaten and left within a reasonable time.
We also paid for another item, which we did not receive. When we asked why they did not bring the food, they told us they do not sell that item. However, the cashier told us that they do sell that item and he put the the order through. We paid for it. Thus, we were very confused why we were not informed that they do not sell that food by the cashier. What makes it even more unfortunate is that the dish was for a family members birthday. They did not end up eating any food at their own birthday dinner. We were mislead and deceived by the cashier.
Extremely terrible service. I do not recommend anyone goes there. The staff seem to not know what their doing and have very poor customer service, especially the female manager. Rather than bring the food that we paid for, in a very condescending tone the manager told us there is nothing they can do except give us a refund and that we need to leave. What a complete waste of time. We were there for hours and did not even eat. We simply wanted to a have a family birthday dinner and eat the food that we ordered and paid for. I am extremely disappointed in Merrywell's service and we will not be...
Read moreFood was excellent but a good night here, in which a lot of money was spent, was ruined by the guys who stand at the door and walk around with chips on their shoulder's, also known as bouncers. As a crowd of 6 people we spent a lot of money here on Monday night, we enjoyed the food and just after 10.30pm we bought a round of drinks for our group, which is not cheap. At 10.45pm, what I can only describe as a moron, came over to our table to abruptly and rudely tell us the bar had closed 15 mins previously and we had to leave immediately. Niceties were not applied. The level of complete ignorance from this lowlife I doubt I will ever experience again. Two questions for you Merrywell; 1.Why, at just after 10.30pm was our money good enough for you to take and serve us drinks, without any indication or noticeable signs that the bar was "closed" only to be told at 10.45pm that the bar had closed 15 minutes previously (severe lack of simple mathematically skills possibly?) and we had to leave immediately - leaving almost full drinks which we had paid for, so rightly ours to drink ? Why would you advertise opening times and then decide to close 30 mins earlier but not tell a customer you are closed when they purchase alcohol after this new, earlier closing time, and continue to serve them? If we had been asked to drink up, leave as quickly as possibly, the bar closing up early there would have been no problem. The severe lack of communication skills from your "bouncers" should be worrying. We spent a lot of money here, but will not be back and will be spreading the word. Not a welcoming establishment,...
