We visited this fish and chip shop 10 days ago and specifically ordered gluten free options for my son, who is a diagnosed coeliac. We paid extra for both gluten free batter and chips and were assured that everything was cooked in separate fryers to avoid cross-contamination.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. My son had a violent reaction to the food, indicating that it must have been contaminated with gluten. He was extremely unwell - unable to eat for five days and bedridden for seven.

I called the store to confirm their process, and they reiterated that separate fryers are used. However, based on our experience, I would strongly caution anyone with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance. Our experience suggests the risk of contamination is very real, and it had serious consequences for my son's health.

This was incredibly disappointing and distressing. I hope the business takes this feedback seriously and reviews their food...

If you're in St Kilda and craving something absolutely incredible, Pink Flake is the place to be! Though they're known for their fish and chips, I decided to try their veggie burger with fries, Greek salad, and lime chilli aioli sauce—and wow, I was completely blown away! I've never had a burger like this anywhere in Australia. Every bite was bursting with fresh flavors, and the lime chilli aioli added the perfect zesty kick.

A huge shoutout to Hiteshbhai for crafting such a masterpiece. It’s clear that every dish here is made with love and attention to detail. The Greek salad was crisp and refreshing, the fries were golden perfection, and the overall experience was simply unforgettable.

Trust me, if you haven’t been to Pink Flake yet, you’re missing out. Just go for it—you’ll thank yourself later! This spot is truly a gem in St Kilda, and I can’t wait to come back for more. Highly...

Bad food and bad staff. The girl from the counter has a very bad attitude, the salad had a worm and bugs on it please don’t eat it. We request for a change but there is still worm in the new salad. We enquired about a refund and expressed our concern for the cleanliness of the food. However, the manager informed us that our salad contained bugs and worms because we ate the food outdoor even when it was clearly still sealed and un-opened. You could clearly see them at the bottom of the salad. The manager said “it’s just one of those days” and that the salad was taken from supplier. In the end, he refunded us a flake meal but to be fair, the restaurant has the responsible to check the salad before serving it to their customers. In all honesty, we highly DO NOT recommend this restaurant for any tourist or nearby locals. The whole experience just left a sour taste...

Good to see they have re-opened! Today, I had grilled barramundi and two potato cakes. Delicious. I'm a fan of potato cakes and rarely experience them as good as these--nice thick slice of potato with a thin batter. Already seasoned. The barramundi fillet was a generous serving and fell apart easily to get onto the fork. They've decided to do away with proper crockery and cutlery for dine-in, in favour of wooden cutlery, and served in a recyclable container that would also be used for takeaway orders. It saves on washing up! They also have a daily $10 Special meal deal that includes fish, chips, and salad. Good value. The footpath dining area caters to wheelchair users, rather than inside the shop.

Fish burger was awesome, the sweet chili sauce went so well with the rest of the burger together with the tartar. The fish was breaded instead of battered, creating a wonderful texture, fit for the lightly toasted buns. The chips were average, and definitely not bad. The battered flake has wonderful flavours, not overly salted like you would find in many other places. We had the Asian salad to go with the fish and chips, it's unique and went surprisingly well with the meal, with a light dressing consisting of fish sauce and some other wonder flavours. Definitely one of the better fish and chips joint we've patronised here.
