Scored a perfect little table in the corner, the lighting is wonderful and the ambience is soothing and romantic. We were here for lunch and started with a perfect dirty martini and a Negroni. We shared some oysters ($66 a dozen from down south and cheaper than most fine dining establishments) and crudo, both excellent. The mains were the fillet steak and the cotoletta, again absolutely delicious. We were looked after by Lisa who is a wonderfully efficient hostess. A word about the service in this place. The majority of the staff are highly skilled and experienced, and take pride in their profession the way service staff do in European establishments. This isn’t the sort of place that primarily hires students or backpackers, so you’re going to be presented with optimum service and a strong desire to accommodate your requirements. The wine was decanted without us having to suggest that, it was no trouble to swap accompaniments for the mains…nothing was too much bother at all. The curated wine list is varied and interesting and they can mix any cocktail you wish to order, whether it’s listed or not. If you’re looking for somewhere to impress, you’ll be hard pressed to surpass Bambini Trust in the CBD, although it might get a little noisy for a business lunch, there’s a strong atmosphere of conviviality if you’re not planning a dry, businesslike meeting. Bill for 2 was $500 but that did inc tip and a very nice bottle of wine. We...
Read moreYou could say I'm one of those organised travellers who likes to arrive at airports a couple of hours before take off. This is not so I can sit at the departure gate fearing the plane might take off without me, but its more so I can start an overseas trip with a glass or two of wine before departure.
Bambini wine room is situated airside in the international Airport atrium just outside of the main duty free shopping area. It looks cosy and inviting despite its open mall location thanks to the wingback chairs and dark colours that are consistent with the Bambini wine trust in central sydney.
When it first opened a few years ago it looked and felt elegant but unfortunately the years have not been kind, and last time I stopped by for a Pinot Gris it felt tired and dirty.
The food offerings are typical airport so thank goodness for the great selection of wines by the glass. You can order the wines in 150 or 200ml lots, which is a nice addition for those who may have longer or shorter time frames than the average glass of wine, and the staff are friendly though not that knowledgable the day I parked my duty free shopping at the table.
Prices are consistent with a wine bar, $10-15 per glass dependant on choice.
Liked: The great wine selection Disliked: The tired dirty surrounds and less than...
Read moreI wish I had taken note of the past reviews that mentioned rude staff and so, future patrons, please note this review and take your business elsewhere. In all my years in hospitality and as a patron, I’ve not met such a rude person. We didn’t get her name so a description will have to do. This waitress, maybe manager as she was all in black, has a very short black bob with a short fringe. We were only going to give 3 stars as the food was distinctly average, the spaghetti was like noodles, and the table was in a cramped space but she has brought the rating way down. After ordering a starter to share and our mains, a blonde waitress with a pony tail offered us bread. We accepted. The bill comes, we are charged for the bread. The minimal cost aside, we did not order the bread, you can’t just charge customers for food they didn’t order. The waitress with the black hair, who was dealing with the bill said, it’s on the menu, you should have known you would be charged for it. How ridiculous. She proceeded to talk over me in a really aggressive manner when I said that makes no sense and what an odd way to treat customers. The blonde haired waitress said that’s just how we do things. Wow. Our first meal in Sydney and what a horrendous experience. If I could give zero...
