From when I was a full blown Office Jock on mid-city George Street, to my first hospo gig down in Pitt, one staple eats stood strong amidst all the changes to the metropolitan landscape and food trends that have since torn our CBD asunder. Big Bite Sandwiches aka Chrisâs aka Big Bite on Pitt, was the go-to for IYKYK veterans of the hustle and bustle of Sydneyâs Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. Chris, the owner, his wife and a lovely team of cooks that have an extremely homely vibe hallmark their sandwich shop/deli with a classic Vienna loaf big boy (giant schnitzel âschnittyâ sandwiches), and offering everything between⊠every type of baked and risen or unleavened carb.
Itâs a type of tuckshop that feels lost in time in this town, yet one that isnât trying to be a throwback either. Not broke? Donât fix it. The space has stood the test of time to churn out simple yet really well made food that just hits the spot when youâre overloaded with choice or your wallet doesnât want to spend a set meal price on a sandwich uptown.
Super appreciation post thatâs my once a week-er! Maybe catch you...
Read moreThis was a gem of a food find. Iâve been working in Sydneyâs CBD for many years and probably like a lot of people, frequent the same places. Iâm on a mission however to visit the older places like this iconic sandwich shop which have a history and cool story. I had the Italian sausage sandwich and it was amazing. They were super busy as I went in the middle of the lunch rush on Thursday. Service was good - they are good and fast at taking orders - they have to be with the long queue of people out the door. There was a wait understandably, Iâd say about 15-20 mins but I was happy getting to know the area, taking some videos and photos for Instagram and enjoying the vibe - everyone seemed to be happily and patiently for their sandwich order. Definitely going back. Very pleased with this latest food find in...
Read moreIt has been said that the experience is right out of Seinfeld.
You know the Soup Nazi episode, all the people backed up in line for the top quality food.
If I get time I will shoot a homage, link, post and share it.
This is it in Sydney, get in early to miss the regular queues out the door of +20 people and get there before the daily specials sell out.
Today I missed out on the fresh cooked Italian sausage and the lamb but did get to sample the lemon pepper chicken.
Bellissimo!
Great quality, fresh sandwiches on fresh crusty bread, these things are huge and tasty as hell, from $8.00.
Pick up a sandwich, sit in Hyde Park and enjoy, a must on your Sydney to do...
