The apartment is functional and clean, in a great location, this place has potential to be amazing. It’s letdown by the staff who are lazy, inconsiderate liars. I’ve never formally complained about a hotel, and I’ve stayed in a few (check my profile) but I felt the need to speak to a manager after the first 3 days due a few issues. Incredibly, the managers were never once available the whole week! For the two further days that I stayed at Mansion51, I got no offer to talk with management, and was told there was never a manager on site. Not even an email or phone call to my room or my personal number. I checked out early in disgust at this place. ||The issues: I visited this property a few days before my check-in as I was staying close by, as I could cancel my reservation up until the day before, I wanted to check the place was in good order as I’d heard some bad reviews. But after a 5 minute tour, the place looked okay. However the rooftop pool was under maintenance. I was reassured by staff it was only closed for another 2 days so would be available for my stay a week later. When my stay started on Friday the 29th, there was a letter on the table in the apartment saying the pool was closed for maintenance for the weekend and would be reopened Monday. This was very annoying, a week later and still closed, and the hotel never sent me notice of this by email or by message in the booking app I used - which is normal practice by good considerate hotels. Anyway, Monday comes and the pool is still closed for maintenance, until Thursday now apparently. By the way, I went up to the pool area every afternoon to use the gym, on only 1 out of 5 occasions I went there was any work being done on the pool. The company or management just don’t care about it being closed as long as rooms are still being booked. No offer of partial room rate reimbursement despite the key hotel facility being closed. ||Furthermore, Noise disturbances were quite frequent from other guests, sometimes the whole night through until the following morning. There was one night where my neighbours were playing loud techno music at 3am. I spoke with reception to get them to stop but the tiny guy at reception clearly didn’t want to deal with it. I ended up having to deal with the neighbours myself (at 5am) when they turned their music back on twice. This is a risk to my own personal safety that I shouldn’t have to make in order just to get some quiet to be able to sleep. There was a security guard outside the property who could maybe have helped, but I’m told he is not allowed inside the hotel. This left absolutely no one to deal with noisy partying tenants as receptionist was unable to lay down any authority on the situation. ||Also, there was sporadically a disgusting smell on the balcony coming from the balcony above. But the cleaning staff don’t speak English so speaking to them was no help. Further, the water dispenser in the gym was not being serviced properly and mould was forming on one of the taps. ||None of these issues were even heard by the managers at the property, as despite speaking to reception about all of them, across a 48 hour period, they never passed on the messages. Maybe managers simply didn’t care about the problems caused by paying...
Read moreThis place could really be a five star spot if they just worked out a few details of their service and communication.
LIKES location layout gym comfortable beds rooftop pool the view room service staff (4/5)
DISLIKES had to ask multiple times to get room cleaned stinky plumbing from time-to-time in shared bathroom bum guns weren't working, and they did not follow through on any of my requests to fix smoking in building (despite being "non-smoking") the broken pool drain covers need to be replaced, especially for kids
I was inclined to give this place a 3/5, but the big redeeming factor was when I went down to ask the front desk staff to ask the construction workers to quit grinding steel at 8:30pm one of the nights because I had my baby with me. The woman at the front desk spoke with the workers, and they actually stopped. She said they otherwise would have worked until 10PM.
If they're legitimately trying to be a five star experience, they also need to be more thorough about cleaning. For example, I needed to wipe grime off of every light switch fixture and cabinet handle before some guests of ours arrived that were sharing the unit with us. Greater attention to detail is needed, as there's more to cleaning than sweeping, mopping, and making beds.
And you CANNOT allow people to smoke if you're advertising your business as non-smoking. The ashtrays outside of the elevator on multiple floors had cigarettes in them. Why do you even have ashtrays if you're a non-smoking establishment?
Was not impressed with the coffee in the lobby area, and there are much better options in the area nearby (e.g. Tube, which is a few blocks down the street). The servings were small for the price, and the baristas seemed confused when I was ordering. This was likely a language thing...
All-in-all, the place is very nice with is general layout, amenities, location, and service. I'm just pointing all this out because it could really be one of the best places to stay in Phnom Penh if they addressed what's listed above. We stayed here nearly nine years ago, and I can tell most of these issues are from an aging building, but it's nothing that can't be addressed with a little TLC.
I'd gladly...
Read moreWith some more effort this could be a really good apartment hotel. Due to family members having dietary needs we tend to book apartment hotels and this place appeared to meet all our requirements.||||Booked a 2 bedroom apartment , which without a doubt had all you would expect from an apartment except any pots to cook with ( I know its cheap to eat out but dietary requirements mean we need to cook at times) after numerous requests we finally received one small pot with a promise that another would be provided (it never was).||||Apart from the lack of cooking pots the apartment is bare yes there are 2 beds, table and chairs , sofa, tv and fitted kitchen and the rest is bare walls and empty display shelves. If they were to hang a couple of cheap paintings on the walls put a few ornaments on the shelves it would make place feel more homely and welcoming.||||Pool area on the roof is ok but was to cold to use when we were there, gym is nothing to write home about but is usable.||||Hotel need to get hold of some tourist information for guests as there is nothing available in either the rooms or reception. also beware there is building work going on next door this did not impact on out stay but something to be aware off.||||With a little more effort this could be a real gem of an...
