This is a really cool space with outdoor seating and a really tasty menu - we liked it so much we visited twice - but had 2 different experiences.
The first and second time we were served by a lovely, friendly girl. Both times we had delicious food, nice cold water that our girl refilled regularly and had great chilled beer. We had Fish Amok and Stir Fried Vegetable Noodles. But….the second time we went, my food arrived and then the girl serving us went for her break - no problem with that. You’d expect another staff member to take care of us, but they didn’t.
Another girl was taking an order from customers when the chef rang the bell for our food to be delivered. The girl then put the order into the till - fine - but then stood chatting to the bar staff. The chef then rings the bell again……she still doesn’t move and I can see my wife’s food sat going cold. The chef rings the bell a 3rd time and she slowly slouches over, doesn’t pick up the food but starts talking to one of the other kitchen staff.
So I stand up, walk across the full restaurant, go to the kitchen, look at the girl, look at my food and pick it up, walk back and deliver it to my wife. I don’t know how long it would’ve sat there without me collecting it.
So 2 different experiences - I might go again, I might not, but if anyone from the restaurant is reading this - you owe me for the work I did, I’ll send my...
Read moreHaving enjoyed the other branch we decided to come here too and it was very good overall. The menu was different, which was a surprise. We ordered the grilled beef salad with asparagus, khmer style grilled beef with prahuk sauce, orange hibiscus tea, soda water and followed this with mango sticky rice and bua loy for dessert. Everything was very good. The beef salad was slightly zingy with the flavours well balanced. The khmer style grilled beef was very good too. The prahuk sauce may be an acquired taste as it is has a strong fish sauce taste. I enjoyed it. It’s served on the side so you don’t have to eat it if you find it too strong. There was a second sauce with it too, which was more of a vinegary chili sauce. The side salad looked a bit old though, like it had been prepared earlier in the day and had dried out a bit in the fridge. Mango sticky rice was satisfying, served with coconut ice cream. The bua loy was very interesting. Something new to me. It was warm, creamy with large shreds of fresh coconut, pieces of taro, tapioca and… sweetcorn. Not being a fan of sweetcorn it felt weird to see this in a dessert but it kind of worked! I’d personally leave it out but it was still satisfying. At $31.50 this place isn’t super cheap but still decent value. The menu looked worthy of...
Read moreSo pleased I decided to try this restaurant out for lunch whilst in Phnom Penh.
The restaurant offers inside dining and an outside garden setting, amongst lush plants. I chose outside which was cool and relaxed during the afternoon.
Staff 5 stars
I had questions about the menu and the staff were great and checked with the chef then provided the response back to me. They were all very welcoming and friendly.
Food 5 stars
The menu has more than enough options to satisfy everyone. I ordered two dishes;
Crispy shrimps in taro nest - I was hesitant as I thought it may have been overall too dry. I shouldn't have worried, the shrimp was moist once you bit into the taro. The sweet chilli dipping sauce was a great addition to the dish.
Ken fish in bamboo - Boneless fish in a wonderful spicy curry full of sliced small eggplants, the spices were full of flavour and not chilli hot. The best I have had.
I ordered an Iced lemon tea with lemon sorbet - very refreshing.
Eleven One Kitchen should be applauded for their commitment to being a plastic free restaurant - Thank you.
