Heard so much about this place, read the reviews, so decided to give it a go on a Thursday 5:30 dinner. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the set up of this restaurant. Spreading over 3 floors, it is huge. There were lots of artefacts indisplay ( not for sale) fishes in ponds ( I guess it’s not for consumption too) takeaway snacks for sale. The whole scene was beautiful. We had a table overlooking the main road. We ordered ‘Tom yum soup with prawns, pork laab, chicken pad thai, mixed veg. The pork laab was good I would say. Tom yum soup cane in a big pot, however, there were only 3 miserable prawns in it. It was bulked up with tomatoes and mushrooms. The chicken pad Thai only had a few pieces of chicken. The mixed veg was just mixed veg, nothing much to shout about. All in all, I could easily imagined I had a vegetarian meal. At the end of the meal, my hubby, while trying to move his glass away to the side, accidentally tilted the glass causing the glass to knocked itself against the table top. It broke. Anyhow, we thought nothing of it and they did not say anything about it. Upon payment, as the receipt was all in Khmer , I was checking on items when the lady told me they was a 5 USD charge for the old broken glass. I was gobsmacked, not because I could not afford the 5 usd, but how cheeky they tried to sneak in that charge without mentioning anything to us until I checked the bill for items I’ve ordered. When I questioned that charge, the girl went away, ( presumably to consult higher authorities) and told me they will waive it. This restaurant in my opinion is full of rich Chinese customers who are willing to spend silly money to eat there. I am utterly disappointed with the quality of the food. For the money I spent, I could easily get better quality food. If you are looking for a nicely decorated place, do come. However, if you are looking for good quality food worth your money,...
Read moreOver the last 3+ years myself and my wife have eaten their food regularly. We've lived in PP 8 years (Duan Penh, Sisowat Quay area/BKK1). The last two times during this last month we had green chicken curry and chicken sour w/coconut milk and that was last night for the chicken sour. Prices have increased quite a bit but that's understandable. More money for a poorer quality product is unacceptable.
All the previous times it was thick especially the green curry with loads of ingredients. The last two were thin with very little ingredients only at the bottom, mostly only soup. We used to have enough leftovers for two nights because we don't eat much. These last two times were barely enough for one meal for both of us. We have dined in also but it gets too crowded around dinnertime these days.
We don't live far from Mama Thais (1km, almost walking distance Passapp 3200R) so it was very convenient. We'll not be eating there anymore because of the sudden poor quality. It wasn't after C-19 when the quality changed either so it's anyone's guess why the sudden dramatic change happened. BTW, I lived in Thailand for 10 years previously, N, S, middle so I know...
Read moreI've been a regular at Mama Thai for couple of years now. It was great before but especially for the past year, my experience at the restaurant has been worse and worse. The food quality is still okay although it is not as amazing as before. And especially recently, the customer service really bad. The menu is worn out with wires coming out and I almost cut myself. As for takeaways, I notice the raw vegetables were visibly in bad and old condition. So I asked for them to see if they can change. They come back saying that it's fresh enough already and the plastic package got a heavy dent as if it was punched or thrown around out of anger. The other time when we wanted to give the staff some feedback on the food, they just simply walked away from us. Unbelievable attitude!
I hope you fix this customer service issue asap for it has been going on for a long while...
