December 2018 As I said below, I've stayed at this hotel several times. This time, by far, was the most disappointing. Even though we checked our booking in person prior to our stay, we did not receive the room we wanted for our wedding. The staff could have seen that there were no rooms available with a balcony when we stopped in to check in November, but they didn't bother. Being that this trip was for our wedding I was very disappointed. The staff offered us an upgrade for two of our four days, at an extra fee. We agreed and paid extra. The first two nights were spent in a very average room that is in severe need of upgrade. Not only that but it wasn't particularly clean. The bathroom ceiling had several hairs stuck to it and the walls and door were splattered with toothpaste. There was even toothpaste dried hard on the outside edge of the sink. The pillows were very sweat stained (thank god we brought ours from home), and there were black smudge marks on all of the linens. It was nice to have a fridge in the room but there was no way to control the temperature. It froze our fruit and beverages and caused beer to explode all over the inside. I'd estimate a loss of about $55 from what the fridge ruined. On our wedding night we had some friends sitting with us before supper. I called the front desk to request an extra chair and was told they don't do that sort of thing. I also didn't like the fact that the door had to be pulled closed because it catches on the floor.
Our upgraded room was much more well kept, but it had some issues as well. Because there was a Christmas tree in the room the furniture had been rearranged in a slightly dangerous way. A large armchair had been placed close to the fireplace and caused a narrow path between the chair and the raised slate tiles in front of the fireplace. I stubbed my toe on the slate and ended up bleeding quite a lot. The front desk had bandaids available which was nice, but they admitted this happens all the time. We had a jacuzzi tub as well, it was clean and added a nice touch. The restaurant (The Keg) was excellent, food and service exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately, unless the hotel has some major upgrading plans I am not likely to return. The cost versus the amenities just don't add up.
November 2018 I visited the hotel to discuss arrangements for our wedding night in December. The staff were very friendly and willing to help me with my requests. I've stayed at this hotel many times in the past and have always had an...
Read moreWe booked this hotel for a family Christmas and New Year ski vacation. We booked the Hotel and flights (from the UK) together on Expedia and was happy with the package and price. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the front of the hotel. There was no issue with road or other noise, either from inside or outside of the hotel. The balcony was nice, and the view out onto the portico and front of the hotel, decorated for the holidays was lovely. Nicely done Caribou team! Some of the reviews list the rooms as "tired" and I guess the carpets are showing a bit of age and the TV stand is certainly a bit "retro". But apart from that the room was warm, beds comfortable and always clean and niceely serviced. The hotel is about a 10-mimute walk from the main shopping area and all the hotels on the main drag have resturants attached, so there is lots of choice. Carobou has a "Keg" steakhouse, which offers really good quality food (if a little pricey) if you are on a budget). One minor point: You can't sit in the inviting hotel lounge (nice log fire) with a drink from the Keg bar because of a licensing issue. For me, that's a bit of an obvious "miss" that needs addressing. For Winter Sports, this hotel is an excellent choice. There is carparking under the hotel, and lockers for skis/boards, etc (the hotel will provide a padlock). The ski bus to/from Sunshine and Like Louise stops right outside hotel - so absolutely ideal. If you hire from "SkiBig3" then you can pick-up and drop off your equipment right in the hotel, so you don't have to walk up to the town with the kit. That's a really nice touchj (and I rthink most hotels offer it - worth checking). The spa pool, was small but we never found it too busy, so seems OK for the number of guests. My wife had a spa treatment and found it a good experience. All the staff were super polite and helpful throughout our stay. Housekeeping were doing a really cracking job consistent;y, though seemed to be at it for almost the entire day - maybe that was because of late/early check-ins. Bottom line: I'd be happy to stay here again. Really enjoyed our stay and had a super Christmas and New...
Read moreWe stayed here last time - by chance on a Hotwire deal where they chose for you. It was a tiny room that time and was fine for an overnight.
This time, we booked directly through the hotel in our room was significantly larger. We had two queen beds a chair a nice little table with two chairs to work on of course like a TV dresser and then a bathroom. The bathroom was a little bit cosy but still was more than enough.
The beds were comfortable the linens were soft and everything was clean. We stayed on the second floor in room 219 the window faced another building but that was fine with us as we weren’t spending a ton of time in the room.
I had the opportunity to Try the pool/hot tub area it was significantly larger than I anticipated and was quite nice. Given the time that we went with everything that’s going on the hotel was quite quiet but you can’t beat the smell of fresh burning wood fire when you walk in the door makes you feel like home and is such a welcoming scent.
The staff was more than accommodating and very nice. The lobby was welcoming to hang out in with the wood burning fire and the few nights that we were there two guys were singing on the guitar I’m just hanging out with their friends and it was really fun to watch so that added to our experience for one evening.
There is a keg attached. It offers all your typical keg menus but also they’re open for breakfast while we chose not to utilize breakfast due to the price it was still just a few dollars more than some of the other breakfast restaurants in town. Breakfast is not included with your stay.
When you check-in they give you a little coupon book which has coupons for different places in town as well as you have the opportunity to get a pass for there are ROAM bus service for free for you to utilize around town. We didn’t utilize the service but it was quite nice that it was available to use.
There are lockers in the underground Parkade for your skis and plenty of parking in the underground Parkade for your vehicle. They also have an enterprise Rent-A-Car located right in the hotel so if you need to rent a car I think that would be...
