A Serene Early Feast: An Unforgettable Experience at The Keg, Banff
Nestled amidst the breathtaking scenery of Banff, The Keg offers a dining experience that is as delightful as the surrounding landscape. On this particular day, my four hiker friends and I discovered this first-hand, as we were warmly welcomed into the restaurant an hour before the official opening time. The generosity of the manager to accommodate us at 3 pm, paired with the serene and cozy atmosphere of the early hours, set the stage for a meal that was nothing short of memorable.
A Cozy and Warm Welcome
Stepping into The Keg at the cusp of its opening hours, we were greeted by an ambiance of tranquility and warmth. The restaurant, with its subdued lighting and cozy interiors, provided the perfect backdrop for a group of hungry hikers eager to indulge in a well-deserved feast. The quietness of the early hour only added to the charm, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the culinary delights that awaited.
A Culinary Symphony
The menu at The Keg is a harmonious symphony of flavors and textures, and we were eager to dive into a variety of dishes. We started our meal with crispy calamari, setting the tone for the feast that was to follow. The Keg burger and sirloin with mashed potatoes were succulent and perfectly cooked, epitomizing the mastery of the chefs at the restaurant. The ribs were a melody of flavors, and the grand steak was the crescendo of our dining symphony – a testament to The Keg’s commitment to quality and flavor.
Exceptional Service
Enhancing our dining experience was our wonderful waitress, Amanda. Her attentiveness, warmth, and knowledge of the menu contributed to the overall excellence of our meal. The service at The Keg is a seamless blend of professionalism and hospitality, ensuring that every diner feels valued and taken care of.
Conclusion: A Memorable Mountain Feast
Our early dining experience at The Keg in Banff was a memorable journey of culinary excellence, warm hospitality, and serene ambiance. The generosity of the staff to welcome us early, the delectable array of dishes, and the exceptional service by Amanda combined to create a dining experience that will linger in our memories.

Read moreThe service from our waiter was amazing my steak was under cooked . Medium rare came out raw but was willing to overlook it . We were having a nice meal with family and friends 6 of us . Enjoying ourselves not being loud or rude , we all had one drink . We all see 2 rcmp vehicles pull u-turn with lights going .. so we joked that they were coming to get one of our party . Turns out they were . They came flying into restaurant up to a gentleman sitting by himself realized it was the wrong gentleman and came to our table ( hands were on their holsters ) they asked if anyone was wearing an axe . One of our party wanted to show another the hatchet he got for Christmas so he wore it sheathed in a holster on his belt down to the dining room and actually didn’t even take it out to show Instead of asking him about it , or asking him to take it back to his room they called the RCMP . Who came in as if someone was being threatened and held hostage .. it was embarrassing for the whole table and especially the person who had the hatchet. Again sheathed and in a holster . The police said someone called and said they felt threatened.. they asked him to put it away ( not illegal to have it .. not illegal to wear it , we were all calmly eating dinner not being rowdy in a bar ) no reason for anyone to feel threatened . He said certainly and got up from the table and was going to walk it up to the room .. the RCMP made a point of accompanying him ( not necessary he was doing as he was asked would drop it in room and come back )then the RCMP started grilling him about his name wanting to see his ID etc ..all in front of everyone in restaurant . It ruined our meal that we paid a lot of money for .. our friend came back and left right away because he was so embarrassed. Honestly any one of the staff could have asked him quietly to take it upstairs there was no reason to call RCMP and ruin a nice dinner and make any of us feel like criminals..( our waiter didn’t even know about it or that RCMP were called and had no issues with our table and had been joking around with our friend )I regret that we paid for a meal that all of us lost our appetite and barely ate because of an...
Read moreI was really disappointed in a lot of aspects of our Banff visit, the entire city is dependant on tourism and for the most part hospitality across the board wasn't great at a few places including Earls and the Keg...
But we're talking about the specifics for the Keg.
I went down early before my friend and ordered food/drinks. I got an appy ($18) steak (The seasonal steak $50, not recommended) and drinks (Around $50). A $118 bill total for me only and the steak sucked. It was a bad cut and had a lot of ligaments. I mentioned it to the younger server and all he said was "Ohh sorry man, they can be marbly". I barely ate it and there wasn't any customer follow up with a manager or anything. Usually if a person barely touches the steak the staff would mention it to a manager and someone would come by and ask what the issue was... nope but thanks for your $$$. My friend ordered a chicken ceaser and they forgot about it. I mentioned it to the server after 20 mins and he was like "Uhh it's coming I'm not sure what hapenned". Nice deflection.
The Kegs service has dropped vastly on this experience. Again no one said anything nor was there an offer for a drink, bill reduction or anything. I'm spending a lot of money here people.
I really hope others have a smoother experience but overall I felt that the staff/policy has gotten worse. Maybe the kid was to scared to mention it or he just didn't care.
I worked in the restauraunt industry at Chop Steakhouse back in the day and they were adamant that you let them know if someone isn't happy with their meal. Then sent a manager to see how they could improve the experience. I highly suggest improving this process as someone spending a lot of money will take their busniess elsewhere.
I still tipped my 15%-20% as people are making a living this way but I'm also spending a lot of money on these trips. I would probably look at eating somewhere else the next time I go to Banff.
I hope your...
