This is a reasonably easy hike but it gives you some fantastic views of Banff! Starting at the lower parking area provides a bit more elevation but is pretty straightforward as a hike. I would recommend starting at the upper parking area (assuming the road is open!) as you are immediately on the trail and into the woods. Grade is low to moderate from this point forward. There really aren’t any other trials branching off from the main trail so once you’re on it you just keep going. When you get near the summit, there are a number of lookout points behind guard rails that give you fantastic views east overlooking the Bow River and the Banff Springs golf course. This is also the popular side for climbers and you might get a peak of them as well. Continuing on to the top, you’ll be rewarded with expansive views of Banff and the landmarks - Banff Springs Hotel, Rim Rock, Sulphur Mountain and more. As with any hike in the mountains, it's always good to be on the lookout for animals. That said, this is such a popular hike, and it’s basically in Banff, unless you go off peak hours, you likely won’t encounter anything. Great hike to do if you’re in Banff although I’m not sure I would make it a destination hike on its own. Either way, highly recommend...

Love this hike. For a quick workout or leisurely hike it can't be beat.

Fit folks can do it in less than 45 mins. Runners even faster. As your climbing believe me, you will be incredulously asking yourself "People run up this.!?!?!" Yes.

But if you rarely hike or do regular exercise, don't overdo it. It can knock the wind out of you just on the first 80ft.

It's best to set aside about 1.5 hours which includes a break at the top where there's a beautiful view overlooking the town of Banff and Bow River etc.

Another great Vista is on the opposite side just before you reach the top and overlooks the Bow River, the Banff Springs Hotel's famous golf course, the majestic Mt. Rundle on the right and the Fairholme Range in the distance. Best place for a selfie ever.

This hike is a super...

It is a good hike. A great starting off hike before doing anything far from town kinda thing as well. Should build up some kind of endurance to keep a steady pace. Gradual inclines. (Personal experience of course) Great views along the trail and lots of space when people passing. Average time is about an hour and 30 mins. I kept stopping, taking photos, water breaks , relaxing, etc and it was about 3 hours and 20 mins. Would I do it again? Yes, mainly to challenge my time and pace. lol Highly recommend for families and even the ones with pets. 🙂 Parking is a bit tricky. Try to get there early to find a parking spot. We arrived just before 10am. I’d recommend getting there for 7-8am. Just have fun and enjoy the...
