The location is a short walk from the centre of town and is ideal. The house is very nicely decorated and very clean. But.||The arrival at this attractive B&B was interesting. We were greeted by Aida who took the opportunity, whilst at the front door (where shoes are to be removed and left) to explain the house rules for locking and unlocking the front door both from the inside and outside. Next were the rules for removing shoes and leaving them in the stand at the door. How the door to our room locked on each side was next, followed by the available soft drinks in the fridge and the allowance of one complimentary alcoholic “nightcap”. Important information – yes, but. ||It depends what you want from your stay – the physical structure and its style, facilities and cleanliness on the one hand and, on the other, the welcome and the atmosphere created by the staff. Has Buffaloberry B&B got this balance right? For us, sadly it was no. ||||My wife is allergic to strawberries, so was pleased when she was asked about food allergies. The pleasure waned a little when told she could leave the chopped strawberries in the fruit mix on the side of her plate at breakfast.||||Would things get better? Aida perhaps didn’t help with her asking one evening, “How many time do you have to get up in the night?”. This was a reference to my pouring a second gin and tonic (my own). Comments, when assembling our 25+ kg each of luggage about overloading the aircraft and adding “I always travel light.” Didn’t help our enjoyment. Such comments seemed somewhat sharp and were without humour.||||This is a B&B and a reasonable breakfast was served (at the time you had written on the whiteboard the day before) each morning. Muesli, chopped fresh fruit and yoghurt followed by a hot dish. There is one dish - no choice. Green eggs were novel. Waffles with fruit, cream and maple syrup were fine, unless waffles aren’t your thing.||||The rooms were fine apart from the bedside light (which Aida didn’t like) which was of lovely style but was useless in terms of illumination. Aida willingly changed for our final night.||||When we complimented her on the lovely style of her property, our landlady explained she was not the owner. They were on holiday and for the last four years she has been their ‘holiday cover’ coming each time from Vancouver. ||||To pay our bill as we left, I asked Aida is she was alright with a mix of cash and card. I put the cash on her table, she said I could keep the loose change. I didn’t and reluctantly she took it. ||So, all in all for our last stay in three and half glorious weeks in Canada this was far from the icing on the cake. Indeed, it left a very disappointing last impression.||||Banff is an expensive place to stay and this B&B is not the cheapest and not worth over...

The hosts of Buffaloberry have a lovely home, clean and wonderfully maintained. They obviously care greatly about it and are very protective of it. They are gregarious so if this is your style the house will suit you. |I was greeted by Theresa at the front door to detail house rules and giving explanations on how things operated. This continued in the room I had booked. If all this is really necessary at such length maybe a more gracious way would be to allow guests to settle into their room and then to talk, seated in the living room over coffee. |There is a communal breakfast table with guests choosing the time of their breakfast by writing it on a blackboard. There is no choice of main meal, although muesli, yoghurt and fruit with juice are also provided. I thought the spicy vegetable wraps a strange main breakfast but was told that I should eat up as the hosts were used to cooking large breakfasts for hikers. Whilst the breakfasts are an important element in the reputation of this B & B I thought they were no better than others I enjoyed during my travels through Canada. The hosts continually popped out of the kitchen to detail all the ingredients of the breakfast and to talk about their cycling trips, the fires raging in BC, local stories, and their own travels. The other guests at the table seemed to enjoy that conversation although I found it overwhelming, struggling to have conversation with complete strangers over breakfast. Whenever I left the house one or other of the hosts would appear which was slightly disconcerting.|There is parking in the garage underneath the house but room only for two guests' vehicles. Otherwise it is street parking which I was encouraged to use although I did park in the garage.|The room was quiet despite being at the front of the house on the road. It is furnished in an American country style. The bathroom is compact but contains all that is needed. |Buffaloberry is within walking distance of the main town but it is still a number of long blocks and may prove difficult for some people. Parking in Banff is a nightmare!|At CAD$494 a night Buffaloberry is a very expensive option even...
