Reading other reviews I realized they chose to give me one of the worst rooms too. Other reviewer named Lori mentioned everything I forgot, actually very important points so make sure you read hers as well. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. I gave them a chance. There’s a list of things that ruined my trip from Calgary to Edmonton, July long weekend. (Five big concerns) Number one I called ahead to change from one to two nights. He told me he would send an email confirmation, never did. Second I arrived after a long bus ride with a cranky seven year old and waited 30 mins in line to check in. Third Spent another 20 min at the counter, when I ALREADY did the online check in, I waited this long because I wanted the second night and to not be disturbed in the morning. My room was absolutely disgusting when we arrived and I had an event to get to. We arrived at 330 and DIDNT ENTER THE ROOM UNTIL 430??? Forth I was thinking I’d be able to mention on the way out, still the front desk was packed at 530pm???? Fifth I get put in a room next to the stairs and janitors closet, was kept up all night by people going up and down stairs through the straits door then as the ultimate cherry on top get an 8am text when I finally get to sleep to do my CHECK OUT. And have the cleaning ladies having the ultimate loud convo outside the janitors closet aka my neighbouring room. HI. lol then I go downstairs, because I have to tell them about the second night for the THIRD yes third time and the disgusting room. I forgot to mention when we first arrived it absolutely wreaked of cigarettes. Did you know third hand smoke is more damaging to lungs than first or second hand smoke? She told me she’ll get them to clean it while we’re gone and have me a $10 discount. Yes $10 after alllllll this lol. We went out all day today. I came back not a single thing was cleaned, same hairs everywhere (not mine I have curly curly hair) there were straight hairs everywhere, stains on the furniture clearly where cups and food had been.. the counters hadn’t even been wiped. Same stains in the bath and shower. Same dirty floors in bathrooms and foyer. Nasty nasty puke stain under the sheets in my bedroom. Nasty coffee machine. Finger prints all over bathroom windows (nice to think about what went on in this room and on top of it, not cleaned lol) with my SEVEN YEAR OLD. He comprehended it was dirty and he’s not even fully coherent he’s a CHILD. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL EVER. Dirty, hotel staff lie, cleaners don’t do their jobs (and I used to be a hotel cleaner I respect hard workers not lazy ones) and THE BREAKFAST WAS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD. two night for $300 IS AN ABSOLUTE AND UTTER SCAM. I could go to motel 8 and get the same room for half the price and probable cleaner. If I’m paying $145 a night the room better be clean and the service shouldn’t be sub par and lying involved as well? The absolute worst, and I’ve stayed in many hotels. I actually feel like I was ripped off big time here. And I’m not one to make comments on hotels. I can’t believe people have good things to say of this hotel? Must be from some really small towns not used to much....
Read moreIt's okay. Rooms are clean and comfortable and quiet. It's a well built, solid building. The shower water pressure is excellent. The individual room air conditioning is really loud, but many hotels have that issue.
The catering or banquet cook staff do a much better job than their equivalents in Calgary. The food is better at this location. I found the meals in the banquet function space to be good.
The breakfast food in the restaurant is good, but the service is clueless. Or mercenary. A business acquaintance at another table put our bill on his room, so the waitress never came back to our table. Not once. And there was a problem with my food. Not a big one. She seemed nice, but we stopped existing once we were not the people paying for the meal.
And while some of the staff were really nice, a surprising number were a bit short and hostile and not very welcoming and didn't really put guests first. Or second. More a night staff issue than a day staff issue.
I wasn't impressed that the housekeeping staff don't turn off the room alarm clocks. Maybe I'm a dreamer, but I really think that housekeeping should make sure that some strange alarm doesn't wake guests up at, say, 4:55 in the morning.
Also, no matter what the in room hotel guide says, there are no steam rooms or Jacuzzi tubs in the fitness center. The night manager told me, since I asked him as he was walking by, that they had been taken out. I wish the books had been updated. I ended up wandering around the lobby with my swim stuff for no reason.
One thing that is really cool but you may find offputting if you don't know what it is, is the eco-friendly lighting. There are motion detectors, and if an area like a hallway or the fitness center has not had a person moving in it for sometime, the lights will go out. Very cool, but a strange thing to experience at first.
There seemed to be lots of parking and we had no problems while we were there. Also there are numerous dining options nearby, even within...
Read moreUpon arriving to the hotel, the two gentlemen at the desk were extremely friendly and helpful. (Mohamed and I didn't catch the other name) We had some good laughs and when my friend and I got to our room we realized we had only one queen bed. There must have been some kind of mix-up. We call down to the desk and ask if there was another room and they happily switch us. It's wonderful when you are accommodated with no attitude or reservations. So those gentlemen get 5 stars for being great at their job! We stayed in the executive office suite where there was no bottled water in the room, the air didn't work, and the knob on the shower kept falling off. Besides that, the room was good. It had hardwood floors, a large bed, and another small room with a desk. The room gets 3.75 Stars.
THE BAD There is a small Lounge in the lobby that we went to later in the evening the first night. The server was an extremely rude person. She didn't smile at all and she seem like she was irritated that we were even there. We were friendly and let it go because everyone has a bad day. The next night we went down there again about a half hour before close and again, she was extremely rude. I had a shopping bag with me and she told me that she needed to take it into the back (but not in a nice way. It was more like she was ready for a fight) I told her that I was not going to give her my shopping bag filled with my expensive items, we were just here to have some drinks and food before we went to bed. She proceeded to tell me that she would not serve me unless I handed over my shopping bags. She wasn't even friendly about it. She made us feel like we were not welcome. When I told her we werw leaving she said "good" That woman gets 0 Stars for treating people terribly. I hope she gets some lessons in customer service and hospitality because if it weren't for those friendly guys at the front desk we would never recommend this hotel and it would have...
