We are staying across the street from this restaurant and wandered over for dinner tonight. What a jewel! Not reheated frozen food but fresh cooked with care meals.. My husband had the pork chop with mash sitting atop a lovely gravy . FRESH VEGETABLES! Asparagus, brocolini, zucchini slices and carrot slices. All cooked to a perfect crispness . I mean FRESH VEGETABLES!!! Not what I was expecting. I had the roasted garlic and fresh mushrooms with shell pasta in a lovely cream sauce. Delicious. I did mention I would like to see a bit more seasoning, I don't salt and pepper at the table. I trust the chef to take care of seasoning. My other suggestion would be go all out on a local made artesian bread for the accompanying garlic bread. But I am a bread lover. The service was good. The chef is very personable. I had a Chilean Sav blanc with a crisp pear taste which for me was a good pairing. As we are in the city till Friday we will go back on Thursday. Bonus points in that I don't have to get in my car and drive and I can enjoy a wine or two. Show them some love and you won't be disappointed.
We went back on Thursday and again a great meal. My husband ordered the rose pasta with shrimp. Big beautiful shrimp and a delicious sauce. Perfectly seasoned. Dylan brought out the garlic breadwitj a flourish. Theychanged the bread from the texas toast to a lovely crusty bread and I ate my husbands instead of the fries I had on my plate. I am a bread girl. I ordered the jalepeno fried chicken sandwich. I wanted to try a more pub food item. Delicious. I am a chicken sandwich snob. Never eat at franchise chicken places. This was good. Thanks again Dylan and your chef for a good meal, reasonable price and great conversation. Sorry no pics we were...
Read moreI decided to have dinner here because my hotel was within walking distance and the good reviews. People described this as a hidden gem. Well, they were not wrong. I wish I had discovered it last time I was in town. The pub/bar area is a few steps down and has a comforting feeling with lights dimmed, but not too low. About 5 tables were already seated and having dinner. As soon as I appeared I was seated to wherever I wanted . I promptly was given the menu and a glass of water. I selected the Buffalo fried Calamari, the rib eye steak with added mushrooms and the warm bread pudding. I also ordered a domestic draught at a reasonable $7. The calamari didn't take long to arrive and was impressed with the quantity, it had a good mix of tentacles and rounds. They had a crispy flavourful batter that kept the rounds shape, it also came with a standard ranch style dip. I was unable to finish it all myself. It was excellent addition to my beer. Several minutes later the rib eye appeared. It looked beautiful. It was cooked to my preference perfectly. The side of carrots, zucchini and asparagus had amazing flavour and a nice crunch to them, perfectly cooked. The bed of mash/creamed potatoes seemed warm not hot, like baby safe warm. While this did not affect the flavour, they did get cold while everything else was hot. I'm sure they would have heated it up for me if I had asked. But as always, I don't return food. After the steak I was beyond full, but had to down the delicious warm bread pudding, so moist, so warm. It was excellent. I would definitely return here on my next visit. Bill came to $93 with 3...
Read moreWe thought it was a bonus that there was a restaurant in our hotel. The reviews looked really good so we decided to make life easy (family of 6) and just go here. Unfortunately it was really disappointing. The beef dip was literally 3-4 slices of very thin beef in a massive bun. It looked more like a deli sandwich than any beef dip I’ve ever eaten (and I’ve had many!) It was not good. The Caesar salad had a very generic and unappetizing dressing (think Kraft-like). Some places at least have good frozen fries but these were not. You could definitely tell they were frozen fries. We asked for no banana peppers on the nachos as they were for our kids, and got … banana peppers on the nachos. I mean we were only 1 of 3 tables in the entire place, it’s not that hard?!
The service was also bad. The waitress was nice enough but one of my kids spilled water on the table and she didn’t bother bringing a cloth or anything so I could clean it up. In fact she didn’t bring us ANY napkins or cutlery at any point in the meal. I had to grab a fork and a napkin from another table for my salad.
I honestly don’t know why this place has such good reviews. The food was mediocre at best and the service wasn’t good either. Edmonton is a big city with lots of competition. Please take my advice and spend your...
