We were in Kingston with my wife doing some training at Queens as part of her medical school. Both of us are originally from India but have our family now in the states with us settled in Toronto. I will start with the good: This place is very cheap in terms of the price you pay versus the ambiance you get. The service is fair but nothing to write home about. Portions are very large and very generous. The roti I ordered was whole wheat, made in what tasted like a tandoor oven, was good and 5 stars for that. Always happy to give credit where it is deserved. Now the bad: We went on one of the coldest days in February 2019 and I asked for some warm water and was given boiling hot water, again literally boiling hot water. My wife ordered a chicken biryani and it was for lack of a better word, a joke. Any below average cook that knows how to mix chicken and rice will roll over in their graves for the biryani. The rice was actually sweet and mushy and you know where this is going. The beef vindaloo I ordered was okay but had the taste of chilli powder that was not saute well. As someone who knows a thing or two about cooking, the curry was made earlier and to make it hot, chilli powder was added later which was not done well. When you do not saute well the raw chilli powder, a big no-no in Indian cuisine, you change the taste to something different. My wife and I are very lowest maintenance, non-whining customers an establishment can get who are pretty happy with okay food but the biryani was the worst we ever had in our entire life.
My opinion: This is a good place for people who want inexpensive westernized Indian food in a nice ambiance. We are very well traveled, eat out a lot, have been to many many many Indian restaurants and this was a let down for the originality of the food. May be the other dishes are good and I can give them the benefit of doubt but we tried these and that is how they tasted. Had the name been curry fusion, the opinion could have been been different but for Curry...
Read moreHave eaten here in the past in the old location and it was great.
Thought let’s try them again as a treat as prices are higher than other places. Sad to say we won’t be ordering again. The dishes were watery and lacking flavour.
And now I’ve had a bout of mild food poisoning for two days, not the Mother’s Day experience I was hoping for.
Can’t recommend, won’t be using the left overs and won’t be eating from here again. Very disappointing.
After seeing this response from the establishment as posted below. This shows a lack of accountability on their part.
To blame a delivery driver who picked up the food from the restaurant and had it delivered in less than 10 mins, is poor on their part and I can see had been used in response to other complaints made about food quality. The restaurant is responsible for the quality of the food.
I will not be calling as I will not be using this business at any point in the future.
“ Thank you for your feedback, and we're very sorry to hear about your recent experience. We’ve proudly maintained our food quality and safety standards for over 40 years, and we haven’t received any other similar reports, so we're unsure what might have gone wrong in this case. It’s possible that the issue was related to the delivery, as delays can sometimes occur—especially when third-party services like Uber Eats or SkipTheDishes deliver multiple orders at once. Unfortunately, those delays are beyond our direct control, but we understand how they can affect the overall experience. We’d appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly so we can better understand the situation and try to make it right. Please feel free to reach out to us at...
Read moreDisgrace to Indian Cusine. I have not tasted worse Indian food anywhere else in Canada. The location is awesome but the service and food is disappointing. The party room here is dark and lacks appeal. The main dining room is better. Don't order the biryani... Its a joke... yellow rice and boiled tasteless lamb is what I got. Sadly I saw a lot of Caucasians in the restaurant, unfortunately they are getting cheated with the food for the money they are paying. The quality and quantity is very low for the price being charged. Service is lethargic.. with not even a smile on the face. Naan was serveed on a small dish and the Naan touched the table on all sides... this is not hygienic. Use a basket for the Naan and a not a small plate, learn to serve food. Vindaloo was a mess... I have eaten Vindaloo all my life and have never seen it been made so spicy and wrong in my life... it has no taste except the taste of red chilly powder...you could distinctly taste the red chilly powder...when we informed the server, he said that's the way our cook makes it and he will not change it... I would suggest that the cook and owner go to India and first learn the Original Cusine properly before running a restaurant called Curry Original. The only thing original about this food is that it is no where close to Indian food. If they can't go to India then go taste food at the Host, Bombay Bhel (Erin Mills) and Chauhan in Toronto. Save your money and go to the Mandarin Buffet in Kingston instead... it's not Indian food but it's 100 times better than the rubbish u will get at...
