Physical observations: some carpet needs replacing, some trim banged up and a couple elevator buttons look broken and dirty to the point where one may cringe to select a certain floor. Some hallways have a bit of a “musty” smell. I notice automatic scent dispensers are installed, likely to mask that issue. Pool was out of order during our stay. On the plus side, a maintenance person was fixing some wall paper corner protectors. ||The location is central to attractions with shops/ restaurants and the beach mostly within a 10-15 minute walk. Don’t be afraid to try the electric scooters stationed by a scooter rental company outside. Download the app. They are easy to ride and can turn the 10-15 minute walk into a 5 minute ride to get anywhere downtown. And they are not just for “young people”. ||Upon arrival, we didn’t get any of our loyalty program “perks”. When I mentioned this to another clerk the next day, she was quick to fix us up. Another day, we called service for more coffee. The next morning, we called to remind them of the previous days request. We had a staff member quickly fix that up after the second call. It seems some staff are quick to fix things up while others are quick to forget. Not sure if it’s lack of individual staff training, attention or motivation.||I would ask that they upgrade the toilet paper. This hotel, like most now, seem to be opting for the cheap and recycled paper TP. My only ask is that this hotel use something better than what they are using now. Honestly, it’s a slight step up from that brown countertop dispensed napkin you find at diners, almost feels like thin newspaper. If you have butt issues, you better bring your own TP. ||Breakfast in the attached Denny’s restaurant is what you would expect. Get just about anything you want… quality is good and consistent. ||Overall, this was an average experience as I was in a vacation mood and didn’t want to whine or complain. The manager seems approachable but, again, I didn’t want to complain during vacation. |Like many businesses, some staff are above average and some are not. But staff generally need to be more responsive to customers. On a final note, this stay made me question why being a “diamond member” of their loyalty program really...
Read moreWe had a 5 night stay here that coincided with a dance competition that was held at the nearby convention centre. Our family had originally booked at the Fairfield Inn, but because some of the families from our dance studio elected to stay at the Sandman, our daughter begged us to switch hotels.||The family that owns this hotel chain also owns the Dallas Stars NHL club. They certainly do spend money on their hockey team, which may mean that their hotel chain is a little neglected. This is the second location of the Sandman Hotels we've stayed in recently, of which Lethbridge was the first. While Lethbridge got a passing grade, it wouldn't take much to improve upon that experience. This location couldn't clear that low bar we had set.||After check-in, we felt that staying here was going to be a mistake. Our first indication things weren't going to be pleasant was after checkin, when we rolled the luggage cart down the hall to the elevator. There was a very dated feel to the hotel, and we noticed that the elevator buttons were old and falling apart. Upon entering our kitchenette suite, we noticed that things in the kitchen weren't very clean, which necessitated us going over everything with disinfecting wipes and rewashing every item in the pantry. The stove was probably from the 1970s, as were all the taps in the kitchen area and bathroom. The wifi was absolutely spotty. The towels provided in the bathroom were absolutely threadbare, and the air conditioning unit noisy. For what we paid to stay here, I would have gotten more value from burning my money to start a campfire. ||If I'm going to say something nice about this hotel, it was that the Denny's restaurant attached to the hotel was convenient and provided good meals when needed. ||Otherwise, if it came to sleeping on the street, sleeping in my car, or sleeping here, I'll pick my car first, then the street if it's...
Read moreTl:dr: Take your money elsewhere.
My partner and I were driving cross country and stopping off to visit friends in the reigon and made unfortunate mistake of booking a room at this hotel.
We arrived late at night and were greeted by a kind, attentive, and well mannered employee who checked us in, and that was the end of my pleasant experiences here.
Our first issue was the rooms location in the building, it was a small hike of approximately 100-150 meters from the desk to the room (doesn't sound like a long distance until you walk it while carrying luggage at while sleep deprived).
Once we found our room we were met with an incredibly potent smell of stale cigarette smoke, it was powerful enough to make me genuinely wonder if we had accidentally opted for a smoking room.
The room was easily the dirtiest room I've ever stayed in, the sheets seemed clean enough but judging by the stains in the fabric sections of the office chair, the thought of what the mattress under the sheets must look like makes me nauseous.
The shower was clean enough to be palatable... But only just, that being said it was the only reprieve from the pungent smoke smell, and the water temperature and pressure was reasonable.
Finally the worst part of our stay here... The cost, ask yourself "how much this room sounds like it should cost?" and I would think around $100-130/night (bearing in mind it's located in wine country) would be a fair estimate, well try double my highest estimate... $262 for a single night in the worst short term accommodation my partner and I have ever stayed.
In short if you have no where else to go and are fending off sleep, than this is a choice, but I would advise sleeping in your car rather than paying $262 to be just as...
