We used to visit this location quite often but haven't had a chance to stop by for quite some time. Came in on a Wednesday evening for dinner and were seated right away. I love the look of the bar as it is beautiful. The restaurant had a faint sewage type of smell we noticed almost immediately.
Server was friendly and got our orders through. Asked for a recommendation and the Royal Bangkok Bowl is what I settled with. My wife had the Chicken Enchiladas.
We started with the lettuce wraps which were okay. It only came with 3 pieces of lettuce so that was a bit of a disappointment as we had to ask for more. As compared to other places like the Cactus Club, I would give them a 6/10.
My wife really enjoyed her Enchiladas. I did get to try a bite and it was good!
However, I did not enjoy my Royal Bangkok Bowl. I don't mind spicy but this dish was a bit too much for me. It was a bit bland tasting. After a few bites, I mentioned it to the server. Her solution was to bring me more water but that doesn't resolve overly spicy food. In all honesty, I would have preferred if they were willing to accept an alternative. I am assuming most restaurants would be willing to send it back to the kitchen and provide a different meal. I would have been more than happy to pay for it.
I don't usually like to complain but I did mention it to our server. She didn't really think anything of it and kind of brushed it off. I can appreciate that there isn't a whole lot they can do but I really felt that it wasn't a big deal to the staff.
I ALWAYS finish my meal or get it packed up. I left more than half the meal untouched as I just couldn't eat it. I tried but literally left the restaurant hungry.
Just a bit disappointed as I come from an industry that customer service is vital for our success, and I felt like I was being brushed off. I could understand if the restaurant was extremely busy and they were just unable to accommodate for my situation. However, the restaurant was a bit slower (Wednesday evening) which would have given them ample time to find a resolution.
My advice, listen to your customer and at least attempt to provide a viable solution. I never would expect anything for free and would have been willing to pay for an alternative...
Read moreVery underwhelmed. We came here thinking it was close to Persephone for a night out. We had been here about six years ago. I must have been underwhelmed then too if it took six years to come back.
We started with the Korean Fried Chicken and the Brussel sprouts. The chicken was like a small town Chinese diner; thick with batter, some pieces dissolving in my mouth like baby food and others dry and drenched in sauce at the same time. The Brussel sprouts had good flavour but were on the underdone side. Ask my husband: I despise overcooked veg but these still could have used more time in the pan.
We decided to share an entree so ordered the chicken and ribs with fries and cesar salad. We got the entree with mashed potatoes and over cooked asparagus. When I asked where the fries and salad were I was told it doesn't come with that. When I asked to see the menu I showed the waiter what we ordered. He indicated that the waitress ordered us a different chicken and rib entree. I pointed out that it too should have come with fries and salad.
We got the fries and salad. I don't understand how you can serve fries where one is ice cold and the next burns your fingers.
Service was meh, not stellar. Can't say we'll be back. Or at least it will be another six years until I forget this experience too.
So to further add to this, the email they linked in the response below does not work. Upon further inspection it has a typo. So I fixed it and emailed again. No...
Read moreOn September 27 I had a pretty memorable experience , the service was slow and full of mistakes but I put that aside and was very polite. During payment my debit card had an issue - the waitress assumed the card must be stolen and threw it away despite my hesitation and questioning of the situation - I then paid with Apple Pay and moved on. About 30 minutes later I realized the severity of her decision to throw away my only form of real payment or financial transactions as I am on a work trip.
So I returned to find a couple friends still at my original table - I was immediately intercepted by a large Caucasian manager aggressively asking me to leave. It took me a little while to realize what was happening but obviously my ethnicity being Cree Nation he assumed something negatively of me and without talking to me demanded I leave.
My WHITE friends than intercepted him in disbelief and tried arguing for me - I explained all I wanted was my debit card back. The waitress than came out and is completely disrespectful manner explained it was actually my fault that they had thrown it away and changed the garbages already.
State and Main is the first dining experience I’ve had in a long time that made me feel less of a human than my peers. They are completely racist in my opinion in Saskatoon and if your indigenous please be AWARE. Maybe save yourself the humility and embarrassment that they...
