I've been debating writing a review since we returned from our trip to the June in Sauble on the weekend of September 11th. My partner and I stayed for two nights (11th and 12th) and overall enjoyed our time. However, there are definitely a few things that could have used improvement that now that I've seen the increase of prices for next year, I feel are worth mentioning so the team can ideally improve, and people can make informed decisions.
The good:
-The motel is certainly adorable, the vibe is great. Very "insta-esthetic" -The staff were kind, although there seemed to be a lot of them just hanging around which felt interesting -The pool and the drinks (although expensive) were lovely -Heyday's mac and cheese is divine -Saturday night's live music was great, eating dinner by the pool and watching them perform while the sun set was the best Saturday -The tea and coffee in the mornings was really nice, and i loved that there was oat milk (yay options!)
The not so good: -Heydays was closed for all but dinner and drinks during the day at the pool for the time we were there. We found this out a few days prior to arrival and they were able to re-open shortly after we left. I understand that staffing issues arise, but this was very disappointing as we had intended to be able to utilize the on-site restaurant and were not able to. We also found out via social media, it would have been a much better experience to have been emailed etc in advance. Because it was after labour day in a beach town, we were incredibly limited in our options, especially on the Monday when we left. It would have been great for more than the option of a cheese box, truffle chips and some expensive donuts to have been provided to guests during this transition and better communication. -Everything is quite expensive (food, drinks, packages, room itself). The food and drinks were good, but there aren't many options. -The rooms are quite small -Our room was ground floor and right beside the walk through making it quite busy beside us and lacking privacy on the "balcony". I think these rooms should be priced differently as the experience was certainly different than it would have been should we be on the second floor or not beside the pass through. -There was a VERY rowdy bachelorette party the first night. I try not to be a buzzkill, and it was fine until after 12am when they continued to LOUDLY sing (and not well) for HOURS while going back and forth to their rooms. Obviously this was not the motel's fault, but there did not seem to be an evening staff to deal with this at all. -As it was the first time we had been away in two years, we purchased the "romance" package. Was very disappointed in the "chocolates" being a tiny tiny dark chocolate bar when the package was $100 and that was sold as a main part of it.
Notable: We did not have any issues with the shower as many reviews have said - I feel lucky for this
All in all I am very glad we were able to go, and it was a lovely weekend away all things considering. However, it did feel like a very expensive weekend for what we got. Which is why, when I saw the prices increase (for the same weekend) next year was 100+ more a night I felt I should write a review. I am torn between feeling like we received the amount of value for the money spent this year, so I could never justify spending that much more next year. It's hard not to feel torn between being incredibly impressed by what the June Team has done, and astonished by the prices vs value that is being presented. I do hope to return one day, but maybe when things are ironed out a bit more and the novelty...
Read moreWe went to the June for a mini moon after our wedding and for my husbands bday with our one year old son. It was super cute and very instagrammable what you expect. The pool was so warm even in September which was great because everything else in Sauble was completely shut down. It was a close walk to the beach which was great as we walked down for sunset one of the nights and to let our son run in the sand. If you’re looking to just stay at the motel or don’t care about exploring sauble after labour day is great for a bit more affordable pricing but literally nothing is open. We drove into port Elgin for the morning which was great and it’s not very far everything there was open.
The food at hey days was delicious but it was expensive. We ate there both nights because again there really wasn’t anywhere else to go. We were okay to spend a lot because it was a special occasion but if we go back we likely wouldn’t eat there every night.
The rooms were super cute and the bed was so comfy we had a king room. I do wish there were dressers though because I really hate living out of a suitcase. It made our room messier than necessary because we couldn’t unpack.
It still feels like a motel but it is a lot cuter. It was fairly kid friendly though i would probably return with some girl friends instead. There’s green space for the kids to play and he loved the pool.
Our bathroom door didn’t shut properly so that was kind of annoying with our one year old and he kept taking the rocks out of the fake plant lol. But not a big deal!
When they came in the next day to clean they made the bed and gave us fresh towels. We didn’t get any fresh glasses the next day and nothing was tidied up a bit on the floor (son’s toys etc). While I don’t typically expect tidying up I feel for the price just a bit of tidying would go a long way. Like just simple pick up off the floor. Also our garbage was not emptied the first morning so we had our sons diapers in there until we left two days later.
It’s just the little details you expect when staying at a higher price point.
We met some great people there! I just feel like the price is a littttttle high for a motel. I would love to go back during the summer or even again when we did.
I loved all the branding and they did a great job with the renovations. Overall we had a great time for our mini moon and the restaurant staff was so great to us. The text concierge was...
Read moreThe remodel of the Knights Inn at Sauble Beach was very pretty- The June did a good job with decorating, however that’s as far as I would go in terms of getting your money’s worth from your stay.
I understand that things are slower in the fall, especially around Thanksgiving in Sauble- but The June had guaranteed a heated pool until after the holiday Monday- not only was it not heated, but freezing cold. A sold out hotel and not one person wanted to dip a toe in.
Without the use of the pool, some kind of outdoor fire pit would have been a nice addition to the property as there was little to do in the area after 8PM, to which there was none- also, the hotel lounge area is also closed after 8PM, so you’ll have to retire to your room.
The room- for a whopping $330 a night, was not too enjoyable. The Wifi at the hotel is pretty much just as non apparent as the staff after sunset. We had to use our data for most of the weekend. And knowing that the wifi in the fully booked hotel is not great to begin with, they could have sprung for basic cable, yet instead the TV was connected to the network.
You’d better be prepared to have all of your logins ready as well- because they do not provide any services for Netflix or other apps they have when you turn on the Roku Smart TV. That’s ALL on you, that is- if you can even stream anything once you login.
We were offered complimentary hot chocolates in the lounge (packets of powder from the grocery store) and a shot of Bailey’s- for the lovely price of an additional $8.
When we asked about things to do in the area, or any kind of trails or hiking places to checkout- we were told to just go check the blog online even though I was standing in front of an actual human at the concierge.
We also asked about a breakfast spot in town- and were pointed in the direction of a Bakery that was subsequently closed for the next several days.
All in all, for the enormous price and lack of service, non existent wifi, and the use of my own Netflix account login- I would not recommend the June except if you would like to post a few Instagram shots upon arrival, then seek out...
