A Timeless Gem with Remarkable Transformation – Lakeview Motel, Sauble Beach
I recently had the pleasure of returning to Lakeview Motel in Sauble Beach after 25 years, and I have to say—what an incredible transformation! My first stay here all those years ago left a lasting impression, and I was curious to see how it had changed over the years. I was absolutely blown away by how much the place has evolved, all while maintaining its signature charm.
From the moment I arrived, I could see the thoughtful updates and improvements that have been made to the property. The rooms are now even more modern and comfortable, with stylish new furnishings and the same immaculate cleanliness that I remembered.
The property itself has been beautifully maintained.
It’s clear that the owners have poured their hearts into making Lakeview Motel even better over the years, and the result is truly impressive. The new owners, Angela and her family were friendly and attentive, it was like taking to a family member or long time friend even though we just met. They made it an easy choice to stay there.
She was very accommodating since we just winged it and drove the 2 hours to Sauble Beach and took a chance they may have a room available and were so happy they did.
The customer service was amazing. Angela is a pro at this. We’ve stayed at many places over the years and she is truly one of the best in the business! Even though we wanted for nothing since everything we needed was there we knew we can go to her and ask for anything and she would have provided for us. You can just sense this! Her wonderful mother showed my husband a few rooms they had left so we can make the choice of what we wanted. We found that to be extremely kind. Owners don’t usually take the time to show you around. You take what is given to you. It may not be this way every time we go but it still made an impact.
The price was fair and reasonable as it was for one night. The week prior we stayed at a hotel for one night and we paid double what Lakeview charged and we were no where near a beach or main strip and had to drive everywhere we needed to go. At Lakeview we had the perfect sized room for myself and my husband as it came with a bed and small refrigerator and full sized bathroom and it was perfect for what we wanted it for. And no need to take our vehicle at all. That is worth it right there!
Sauble Beach itself, of course, remains as beautiful as ever. The beach is just a short walk away, and the location couldn’t be more convenient for exploring the area. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day on the sand or a chance to check out the local shops and eateries, everything you need is close by. If you don’t like the beach Lakeview also has their own outdoor pool. Clean and fenced in for safety reasons it’s perfect to cool down and well maintained. Just remember to bring your own towels. The towels they provide is for bathing/showering only (which is fair since chlorine does ruin towels). I don’t feel like this is a big ask since you would be bringing towels to go to the beach anyway!
I’m so glad I decided to return after all these years. Lakeview Motel has only gotten better with time, and it remains one of the best spots to stay in Sauble Beach. If you haven’t been yet, or if it’s been a while since your last visit, I highly recommend checking it out. You’ll be amazed at how it’s evolved while still keeping the heart and soul of what the original owners Carl and Mavis (Rest in peace) made it special all those years ago. Can’t wait for...
Read moreUpon arriving I was shocked when I opened the sliding door only to be knocked over by the toxic fumes of Pinesol (at least that what they said it was). I had to hold my breath to get to the next locked door which when I opened was almost just as bad as the entry foyer. There was only one tiny (7”x7”) window in the bathroom near the ceiling that opened. There are no other windows to open. So basically I was in a box with no windows & fumes that burnt my throat & gave me an instant migraine. I tried to air out the room by leaving my door wide open but the smell was so strong I couldn’t stay in the room. I immediately spoke with Angela, the front desk person, about the toxic smelling cleaning agent/fumigation spray or whatever it was & told her it was intolerable. I ended up having to sleep at a friends nearby cottage on the floor. I had no choice because I was feeling so very nauseous from the fumes. It was all I could even taste while in the room. Angela insisted it was Pinesol.||||I said I understand the cancellation policy and that I was willing to pay for 2 nights but thought a refund for the last night (a Friday which could have possibly been rented to some other poor sod) would be reasonable since I wasn’t able to stay in the room. They would not agree to it & would not let me speak to a manager/owner. I returned the key at noon on Thursday & cut my vacation short as I had no where else to stay. The fumes were still there. For the price I paid ($868), I didn’t expect to be poisoned by the smell of Pinesol (as they do claimed it was).||||Outside of the horrible toxic fumes, the room was very tired, which, they claimed it was all renovated. Maybe they painted the room & put new bedding on the board like old beds, but this was NOT renovated! Don’t be fooled by the strategically taken photos. The old bed felt like a box spring with no mattress. The bathroom was filthy & if I had ever been able to stand the smell I would have needed to wear flip flops in the gross dark mildew ridden shower stall. I wouldn’t give this room (more like a damp smelly prison cell) , even a one star. ||||I am throughly upset. I lost almost $900, had no room to stay in & had to cut my holiday short. ||||Between the smell & dissatisfied with the lack of customer service, I would stay away, far away from this place. I pity anyone expecting this be a decent place especially at this price. I wouldn’t pay $50/night for this hellhole of a place! ||||I will be reporting this motel to the Ministry of Health first thing Monday morning. I hope for the sake of future travellers, that these owners endure everything they have...
Read moreFor starters we didn't expect much when we got this room Next time we're in Sauble Beach will definitely drive to Owen Sound it's worth the extra half-hour drive plus the extra 25 bucks or hopefully the Motel that's being renovated will be open The lady running it was very nice but when you go into the office she didn't even bother wearing a mask during a pandemic Found hairs in between the bed sheets so we're not even sure if she changed them from the previous person Thankfully we had a minivan and had our own big sheet in the back of it Out of caution we spent 30 minutes cleaning and Lysol on before heading to the beach ( to be fair though I still would have done that in a 5-star hotel) See Picture of the vent in the bathroom it doesn't look like it's ever been cleaned On the window there's no lock to hold it in place (see picture) When we asked her about it the first thing she said is my people don't have a problem I have no idea what that means but if she's talking about small-town people for the most part that is true until the first time you hear something and you get that never happened here before Meanwhile half the people there were tourists The pool is ripped and disgusting It says comes with free Wi-Fi but the only way we were able to get it is to go out to the parking lot And the rules oh my God no visitors To be honest I wouldn't even want to have any visitors there except to get a good laugh I'll post a picture of the rules as well I believe the only way this place has survived is because of the location However when the one that's under renovation is done I think they'll lose a lot of their business My wife was ready to take the loss of a hundred and seventy bucks on bail Not even a cheap bar soap with supplied that picture beside the sink was what we brought with us And thank God we brought towels because they don't Supply them
(UPDATE) I just had my credit card declined They said someone tried purchasing $330 Canadian in Bitcoin While I can't say 100% it was this place I don't use my credit card for purchases always debit This is the only transaction that i have used this this credit card on for 5 months The credit card company is going to look into this place specifically To see if this is happened with other MasterCard transactions Because even they said This is highly unusual since you never...
