A very kind and engaging staff proudly showed us their new landmark hotel recently. As cottagers and full-time residents since the 2nd World War our family has seen Sauble Beach in many forms. Change - always feared or hoped for. As the first multi-storey accommodation the Sands has taken a place in the history of this special beachside town. The rooms all face the "ocean" that is Lake Huron. Liken it to being on a luxury cruise ship, where every view is on the good side. The gorgeous tones in the evening sunsets are never identical, but unparalleled at Sauble. The Sands was clearly designed with that primary understanding. Our guide took us by elevator to suites with enough room for a family or 2 couples to spend a week. Kitchens are fully equipped. However, as we entered the smell of a 5 star dinner being prepared on the first floor told me where I would choose to eat ;) ((Foodies might have less vacation days than there are quality restaurants to explore when they arrive! )) Our feeling is that the rooms are varied and priced to those who want to feel at home for a romantic weekend or a multi day immersion in the beach life. This isn't a place you will get for nothing. Nor will you have to navigate hockey teams playing mini sticks in the halls. It is the place you will be comfortable enough to sleep late-- but at Sauble it is worth it to get up early. Wander to a local coffee shop like Two Chick's or Amici's, bring your hot drink back to your private balcony and envy the people motivated enough to walk and cycle by as you chill, identyfing more with the seagulls drifting by. Our thoughts- if you are local- mention it to them. The Sands is community friendly and for us, an easy recommendation. Friends and family will be directed here when we are out of room in our own "Inn". We will book a table well ahead for whatever is being created in that magical 1st floor restaurant. It is a unique concept now. A chef leasing space in the main floor in front of a giant picture window. Open concept kitchen and view to photograph across the dunes. Already an insider hit, rumour has it there will be a rooftop experience coming soon. Thank you to the team who let us explore, learn and be won over by our new hotel "neighbour." You have created the kind of place that moves you to buy a stamp and send a real postcard to envious friends...
Read moreThis rare gem was easily the highlight of my year. We chose The Sands to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday, and it turned out to be as much a surprise for me as for him. The team made our stay unforgettable. They went above and beyond and decorated our room for the occasion, with rose petals, a birthday card and a bottle of champagne on the house. We arrived later than planned and they still went out of their way to refresh the ice so it would be chilled when we got there. It is easy to tell they put their heart into making guests feel special and comfortable during their stay.
Beachgoers can grab a towel on the way out and drop it off later for cleaning. The rooms are spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated with a coastal vibe. Our room had a full kitchen with a fridge, oven, coffee maker and barstools. The free breakfast also had a decent amount of food choices.
And nothing beats waking up to that beach view. Every room has a balcony with lounge chairs that are perfect for watching the sunset.
The location could not be better. The Sands is the only beachfront hotel in Sauble, just a one-minute walk to the beach. The beach itself is gorgeous with clear water, long stretches of sand. Shops and restaurants are right there too, plus the hotel has its own restaurants. There is one on the main floor and one on the roof. Even with all that nearby, noise was not an issue and we slept so well.
The hotel also has great common spaces: outdoor seating for meals, and a rooftop lounge with views that are stunning.
Janice, Jeff and the whole staff were incredible, super friendly. From booking, to check-in, to check-out, everything was smooth and easy. We are already planning our next trip back and I think this might just become our...
Read moreI'm surprised there aren't any reviews for this wonderful hotel! It has been open since Thanksgiving 2024 and everything is brand new. We booked a King Suite on the top (4th) floor for four nights. Apparently, it is one of the smaller suites but at 450 sq ft it was more than enough for us. Very comfortable king bed, full kitchen including a four burner stove with oven, full refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave. Sufficient utensils for four people. You could quite comfortably cook your meals there. Also a full washer and separate dryer and a walk-in shower. The balcony with two Muskoka chairs faces west so with full sun in the afternoon it got quite warm. But the 11 km beach is right across the street and the water was comfortable for late June. You can see the famous beautiful sunsets from the balcony but even better is the rooftop where there are lots of comfortable chairs and tables. The Sandbar Lounge isn't open yet; they were still putting the finishing touches on it while we were there. The complimentary continental breakfast was a major step up from those offered by chain restaurants, with fresh-picked strawberries on offer and fresh flowers on every table. We had dinner one night at Clementine's Restaurant, sitting out on the street-level patio. My filet mignon was maybe the best I have ever had and my husband was quite satisfied with the vegetarian option. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We will definitely be...
