This 3 star hotel is a 5 minute walk from the shore and a selection of restaurants so the location is excellent. Rooms are single storey, arranged in blocks of 4 or 5, and spread throughout the well maintained grounds. There is a swimming pool with sun loungers on site.|Room 118 was a large room, in a block of 4 rooms, equipped with a very large bed and plenty of storage space. It had an in-room safe and stands for 2 suitcases. The shower over the bath has a fixed height shower head which was set higher than we would prefer. The bath is extremely slippery when wet. When we first used the room, we had difficulty getting any hot water for either the shower or hand wash basin. Despite contacting the front desk maintenance team this wasn't really fixed 24 hours later. However, the following morning we had piping hot water BUT the supply was very intermittent. Sometimes there would be enough to even have a shower, essential in the hot weather, other times there wasn't enough to wash your hands.|There is no TV in the room, which we didn't mind since we seldom watch TV while on holiday. There is a small fridge in the room, which was useful for cooling water, etc. There is no desk and chair available at which one can complete paperwork, etc.|Breakfast was a buffet but different to the normal. There were usually 2 different juices available as well as a selection of fruits and a few cereals and some cold meats and cheese. There was a dish of scrambled eggs and some pieces of sausage which were the only hot items. The coffee was excellent; hot and not too strong. There were some baked goods available - especially good was the banana "bread" baked in the traditional way. It was to die for.|The hotel offered a laundry service - $4 for a pair of trousers which was...
Read moreThe garden at Hotel O'tai is overflowing with hibiscus, bougainvillea and roses. The front desk is open air - beyond it the diningroom with outdoor and indoor seating areas; a small path takes you to the hotel bungalows, each room with a separate entrance, two deck chairs and a view of the pool in the centre of the garden. It's gorgeous. |Breakfasts were good. The staff went out of their way to help us, even making a long distance call to a car rental place in Patagonia on our behalf because our Spanish was inadequate to the task. Tours arranged from the front desk arrived promptly and were excellent. Easter Island is tropical, full of history and spectacular Moai and lots of competent tour guides to teach you about it. Restaurants nearby offer a variety of seafood - lots of fresh tuna ! (But there are other options.) There are free-range chickens and roosters (and cats, lol) at the hotel- which may be disconcerting to some - but they weren't a bother at all. The hotel is 2 minutes' walk from the ocean.| You can rent a car but unless you're keen to explore on your own, it isn't necessary. You can't get car insurance on the island (just what your credit card might provide) and the tour companies will take you everywhere. You may still need a PCR test to get to Easter Island. (We did as of Dec 2022) Check with the only airline that flies there, Latam Airlines, although they are almost impossible to reach, so then check with a travel agent. They...
Read moreWi-Fi is not available in the rooms, only in a very limited location outside near the reception desk. The lighting in the rooms is non-existent and you will need to bring your own light to see at night. The breakfast consists of pre-sliced pieces of cheese and ham, over cooked scrambled eggs in a pot, cut up hot dogs, but some nice pastries. The hot water in the shower is either scaling then turning cold then turning scaling again. House keeping forgot to provide bath towels twice and I had to go to the reception to get them. While I know this is a Spanish speaking country, the reception staff should have some English knowledge but they do not. I tried using a translate program and they still did not understand. There is no kettle for boiling water in the room and they do not provide coffee or tea for the room. There is more but I shall stop here. There are much better places to stay in Honga Roa, Easter Island than this...
