This hotel was a nightmare for us. We were unfortunately put here by Aurora Expeditions when we should have been at Hotel Cabo De Hornos. The room (418) was from the 70s with a view overlooking a storm water drain complete with graffiti. The nearby building noises meant we couldn’t open the window if we wanted peace and quiet. The electricity continually turned on an off all night which I understand was probably beyond their control however there are such things as generators to back up supply. The water heater screeched continually and had to be continually turned on,off and midway to quite it - or try too!- albeit we didn’t want it on at all. The fridge is kept locked which I found very strange given only staff and residents are supposed to access the rooms - trust issue perhaps? Our travelling companions found human hair balls in the drawer of their room. The bed was okay except the bed head squeaked which was annoying. The breakfast was okay and the views from the 6th floor were good. The complimentary Pisco Sour - wasn’t a Pisco Sour as we have experienced throughout the rest of Chile and no substitute - cheaper - drinks were allowed which puzzles us still. No early checkin available albeit the rooms were available. Sorry... this will most definitely be our first and last Best Western experience. We definitely won’t be back. Ps the...
Read moreOn Christmas day we arrived at the hotel around 11:30 AM hoping to visit Magdalena Island to see the penguins in the afternoon. I asked the gentleman at the front desk about taking the ferry to the island. He told me it was closed because of Christmas. I asked several times and he told me it was not possible and then he persuaded us to do a tour to the forts about an hour away. Since we had time on our hands we agreed to go (and paid a lot directly to the hotel) I later learned that the ferry was running in the afternoon and that the island was indeed open on Christmas day. I recommend looking up the schedules at tabs.cl - you do not need to sign up for a tour, instead you can book your ticket yourself. Btw, the island and ferries are closed down on Dec 31 and Jan 1.||||Otherwise the hotel room was fine, the lounge area is quite nice, the bar/restaurant on the main floor had terrible food and the breakfast was less than average of the breakfasts that we had on our...
Read moreNow called Beat Western. It was a nice little place to stay in Punta Arenas. Not fancy, but the basics done well. The room was small with a huge bed, which was comfortable. Ensuite was also.small but functional. The restaurant staff very friendly but unfortunately dinner was dry. They manage to find a way to stuff king crab into everything! You'd think this would taste good but unfortunately the meat was dry and hard. Didn't get a chance to have the fish or the pasta as on our last night the kitchen closed early due to smoke from a nearby tear gas canisters seeped into it. ( local protests at the time, we were safe in our hotel). Check out was at 12 noon, they allowed us to hang around till 1pm. There's also a bar and a decent lounge to kill some time before your flight. They also have a luggage holding service if you want to head out for a while. Would go back. Worth the money...
