We checked in late as our flight got in after 9:30pm. I read previous reviews regarding some of the rooms being noisy and we were put in room 201, which is at the head of the stairs and is technically a suite room with a thin wood door separating two rooms. The family in the next room stayed up past midnight and while they were not excessively loud, there was no barrier to sound and their normal level conversation sounded as though they were in the same room as us. We asked for a room change the next morning and we were moved to a suite which was lovely, quiet, the last room in the corner. As a note- there isn't air conditioning in the room and we tried to have the window open the first night as the heater in the room didn't seem to turn off and we were very warm. The street noises were very loud. The second night, the room temp was much better and we had no need to open the window. The rooms were both clean and roomy enough. It's not particularly nice or posh; it's a basic accommodation hotel. The breakfast provided was varied and the coffee was good. The staff, particularly the evening desk worker, were very helpful and pleasant to deal with. As I noted, they moved us the next day to a quieter room. I wish I had reached out to the hotel before we started to travel to say we were going to check in late and wanted a quiet room, and specifically not 201, the room which I believe was mentioned in previous reviews here. After an exhausting 30+ hours of travel, not sleeping was a huge...
Read moreWe traveled to Punta Arenas with family from Chile—we all had not visited before so we were excited to see the area. Our cousin found this hotel on Booking.com and the pictures on the website are deceiving. Tripadvisor also has this hotel on its site as a recommendation and should re-evaluate.||As usual, my immediate family of five requires two rooms and we paid close to $600 USD in total. The rooms were old and not maintained. Our towels were placed in the bathtub; unclear whether they were clean. The shelves that the towels were supposed to be on were falling apart and dilapidated. On our sons’ room, the lamp attached to the wall over the head was falling out of the wall. The bathrooms had large cracks in the floor, large cracks in the shower stalls too. The carpet had large stains. We ended up moving to a new hotel after spending most of the evening searching for one that would accommodate us.||We all felt scammed by this hotel. We ended up finding a nice hotel not too far away that could accommodate us all. ||The Tierra del Fuego hotel should not be on any travel websites as recommended because it really is a rip-off. For $600, I expected clean rooms, floors and certainly not have towels placed in the bathtub. The beds weren’t that good and certainly not for $600.||Would give it 0 stars if I could!! We should...
Read more. Ventus Australis is Latin for “southern winds.”We booked the roundtrip cruise from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia and back to Punta. And we were so very glad that we did that. We were on the 7th voyage of this recently launched ship. The days were filled with information briefings, films, zodiac landings, great food, incredible unfolding natural beauty of rugged savage mountain fjords with tumbling waterfalls, glaciers, icebergs and shifting changing skies. Our spacious double bed cabin of 177 sq ft was on the Cabos del Hornos 4th deck. The staff were fantastic. From our two waiters: Alex and Brandon, to the multi-lingual expedition leaders with special thanks to: German, Luciano, Cristian, and Guste. Senior bartender Manuel served great drinks as well as braving the icy waters to insure safe landings at Cape Horn. Since we did a round trip, we sat at two different assigned tables. The first was a round table for eight. We called ourselves the “International Table” with couples from USA, England, Switzerland and Germany. The second table of 8 were USA and Canada. What we would change/suggest about this impressive cruise experience? Dinner at an earlier hour. The multi-course dinner commences at 8pm. That is late for us and for most of the...
