Good room and premium location for a cheap price. Rooms were clean, noise from outside was almost absent and the breakfast (Chinese style) was pretty good.
While you shouldn't expect the greatest English, the hotel staff's skills are decent enough to hold a simple conversation with you. When they fail to understand they just whip out their phone with a translation app and solve it that way which works just as well.
Payment is done either by credit card (note: our mastercard failed us here) or cash. The staff had no problem with us having to go to the ATM and they let us check in and drop our stuff in our rooms first. When the our bank passes didn't allow us to withdraw enough cash to pay for the entire stay (daily withdrawal limits and all that) the staff was fine with paying the first half on check-in and the second half the next day, when our bank passes worked again.
The hotel is located around the corner of "Shanghai no. 1 pharmacy" and "Shanghai fashion store" which makes it very easy to get to by metro. Both the People's Park and East Nanjing Rd. stations are about 5 minutes walking distance. Despite being so close to Nanjing Road the noise levels in the rooms are extremely low. Throughout the day the most you will hear are the tourist trains' bells and some cars, at night all you hear is a small bit of traffic in the distance. Noise starts to build up again somewhere around seven in the morning. There's a supermarket across the hotel and an alldays around the corner making it easy to buy snacks for on your room.
I will absolutely stay here again...
Read moreThis was the perfect hotel for us. We took the Maglev to Longyang Road which is 50 Yuan per person. Then we changed to the Metro to get us to People’s Square metro station (this train will be a lot more crowded than the Maglev which is a challenge for people with luggage). From there look for Exit 5 as this seems to be the nearest exit to the hotel and it has an ascending escalator so you don’t need to drag your luggage upstairs (you will need to drag your luggage up and down stairs at other points though, you can’t avoid it altogether). Use the underpass to get into the Nanjing Road pedestrian mall and stick to the left until you see the name of the hotel. If you’ve passed one Maccas you are nearly there, if you pass a second Maccas you have gone passed it. After our stay we took a taxi back to Pudong airport and it...
Read moreBooked online for a 3 night stay. The photos online are very different from the room we got but was great value for money.
PROS: Middle of the city, close to restaurants, shopping, scenic points of interest, transport, good price, warm hotel, helpful staff. English not commonly used but staff will use translation apps to provide assistance.
CONS: Room is very small. The bathroom is the shower stall. Not a very modern hotel, clean but slightly run-down,room service not very good (left us with dirty dishes but did replace towels), strong smell of cigarette smoke despite smoking being banned, road noise audible from the 5th floor.
Would suit travellers on a budget who are happy to temporarily forgo some modern comforts. Would not suit those looking for a quiet...
