This is a cantonese restaurant located on the 2nd/3rd storey in the same building of the hotel we were staying, Crowne Plaza Nanjing Road (formerly known as the Majesty Hotel)
Liked the ambience and atmosphere of the hotel (especially on the 2nd floor) with lots of vintage decors, pictures and wall papers reflecting the olden days of Shanghai (the 3rd floor was more like a ballroom setting). We dined here for a few times during our 8night stay at the hotel. It reminded us of the similar restaurants in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
We had our breakfast here from 7.30am to 10.00am (but by 9.00am, the staff would push you to order quickly as they would close taking orders or serving food by 10.00am in preparation for lunch). Other than that, staff were generally friendly, polite, helpful and efficient when serving the food and clearing the used plates.
And most of the foods were nice and yummy, in particular, the porridge, deep fried tofu skin, chee cheong fun, xiao long pao, the salted egg york buns, fried noodles, prawn dumplings among others. The wanton noodles and soup, however, was bland and tasteless and the dumplings were hard. The tea we ordered, longjin and chrysanthemum was great.
And prices were reasonable, considering the quality of food.
We did enjoy our dinning here, if not, would not be too...
Read moreWe made a stop in Shanghai just for the Andy Lau concert. We came to this restaurant because it was attached to our hotel and we had the best dim-sum we've ever had...no kidding. Our family loves Dim Sum, and living in the San Francisco Bay Area, we've tried lots of different restaurants with good dim sum. But there is something special about this place, spices and flavors, that I had never experienced before. It was eye-opening. It reminded me of the time that I have my first slice of New York pizza, and I said "Holy Cow". There is a certain flavor and texture to the food that I've never experienced before. I want to know their recipe because I don't think I'll encounter this again without going back...
Read moreExtremely authentic Cantonese (Hong Kong) food. We visited with some locals and it was one of their favorites. In order to get to the restaurant we had to enter the lobby from East Nanjing road and take the elevator to the third floor. I was told the restaurant occupies several floors of the building. None of the staff spoke any English but our local friends did all of the talking. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. The restaurant was very clean and all of the food was well prepared. You eat the food family style so you order a bunch of different dishes for everyone to share. This is a great way to try out several different types...
