I do NOT recommend this hotel; do not come if you are disabled, old or in a wheelchair. I came with my aunt and a lot of the rooms are not accessible by elevator. I calculated and one you enter downstairs, it took me 4 minutes walking to get into the room which is huge compared to other hotels. The little bench in the entry was stained. There are some holes in the walls. The room doesn't look like the pictures at all!! And it's pretty dark even when all lights are on. There is a glass window between the shower and the bed, which made it super uncomfortable to shower (the one in the bed can see you even with the curtain down bc it is not thick enough). You can see my aunt in the picture, imagine when we had to shower. Only acceptable for couples, undecent for family or friends. The staff didn't accept to change me to a more accessible room even if my aunt is 72 yo and back problems!! For that matter, Trip refunded me about a fourth or a fifth the booking which isn't a real solution for that. Breakfast was ok but once there was a dirty plate, tried to give it to the waiter but she just told me to use it. What was i suppose to do with it, put it back for others? The mats of the hallways aren't high-end at all. The lobby indeed is but not the rooms, they are not all worth the pictures. Please note that there are around 40 rooms upstairs where i was, where you are likely to be housed, you need 2 different elevators and walk one floor. Other cheaper hotels in shanghai will make you feel more the "high end" experience. The price isn't justified in my opinion. Thanks to the cleaning ladies who where...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying at this unique boutique hotel during my recent trip to China, and it was truly a memorable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the hotel’s distinctive character—an enchanting blend of rustic charm and ancient elegance. The architecture and interior design are steeped in history, with weathered stone walls, antique wooden beams, and traditional decor that transport you back in time. Yet, despite its aged aesthetic, the hotel is immaculately maintained and thoughtfully curated. Every corner tells a story, and there’s a quiet beauty in its timeworn textures and peaceful ambiance.Service was warm and attentive, with staff who made me feel genuinely welcome and went out of their way to ensure my comfort. My room was cozy, well-appointed, and tastefully designed to reflect the historic atmosphere while offering all the modern amenities I needed. The atmosphere throughout the hotel was serene, offering a perfect retreat from the bustle of the city. Whether I was enjoying tea in the tranquil courtyard or simply admiring the vintage touches in the hallway, I felt relaxed and inspired.Highly recommended for travelers looking for something beyond the typical hotel stay—this place is more than a place to sleep; it’s an...
Read moreGreat central location to hit up many tourist attractions around shanghai. Also located right by the nanjing road walking street so there are lots of food options and also lots of activity until 10pm. There is a hop on hop off tour bus stop just a block away, metro stations are easily accessible, and taxis/didi riders can stop right outside the entrance.
The building itself is a historical building (i believe the concierge noted it was originally built 1920), but rooms are renovated nicely. Sound proofing from outdoor noises 6 fairly poor, i kept thinking our window was opened, but it wasn't. The corridors are a bit like a maze but was expected since it is an old building that wasn't originally made as a hotel. Breakfast was included in our reservation, and they have a variety of Western and Eastern options daily. My biggest complaint is that the bathroom has limited to no space to put clothes when showering. The counter is very small, so if you have your toiletries out, then you have to rely on the single hook behind the door. Also, the shower stall wasn't sealed properly, so water came out of the shower to the floor.
Overall, it was a...
