I cannot take credit for discovering this adorable boutique hotel as my wife found it, but it's now my go-to in Medellin. Close enough to walk to the center of El Poblado but removed sufficiently, you feel like you are in a tropical oasis with a canopy of trees, beautiful birds, and exceptional service.
The hotel is tiny, has about 20 rooms, and is divided between two white limestone vintage-style buildings. The common areas are small but beautifully decorated with terracotta tile floors, sepia-tone photography, and handmade baskets and crafts. There are two small patios, one off the lobby and another between the buildings. This second patio offers a water feature, a hammock, and a sofa for evening lounging.
The rooms are not expansive, but ours had a small private patio with an outdoor tub and cafe table, adding charm to the space. Our bathroom was divided into a toilet with a door, a sink, and a shower stall with a cascade of water, making it feel like you are showering in a waterfall.
The room interiors are also decorated with native crafts and rustic materials, including exceptionally soft natural cotton towels and bedding, keeping the aesthetic uniform throughout the property.
The young staff were fun to chat with and were eager to hear about our daily journeys and offer recommendations. There is also a popular upscale cafe not affiliated with the property but attached and accessible from the street called Ganso & Castor. There are a few in town that offer breakfast and lunch.
Whether you visit all the time or are planning your first trip, Quinta Ladera is an...
Read moreMy family and I stayed here in June and are so grateful for the staff at HQL. Everyone was so kind and despite the language barriers they went above and beyond. The first night we were there our baby couldn't settle down for sleep and one of the staff came to the door to offer her assistance, even just to walk the baby around the hotel for a little bit. We also were given a small room on arrival that was very cramped for our family and the hotel worked it out so we could switch to a bigger room by next morning. It was a HUGE life saver. The hotel is not particularly kid friendly for the ages of our kids (4 and 2) but our travel agent booked all our stays so we didn't know this beforehand. The hotel staff did an amazing job making sure the kids and the parents were comfortable and taken care of. And they never once showed distaste or made us feel bad for our loud noises, chaos, and running around the hotel. Cherry on the top was that they secretly packed the tote bag (that I had been tempted to purchase but didn't buy) into my bag for me to take home as a gift of the hotel. Kindest people work here and they take great care of the property and the landscaping. It was so peaceful even with the two...
