This is going to be more about the value for the cost than anything else. The hotel wasn’t bad by any means but for the price I was expecting more.
Location It’s a good location if you want to be close to all the popular things in this area without being right in the middle. It’s a quick walk to where you need to be but removed from the noise and business. However if you want to be able to exit your hotel and have a ton of options or want to go somewhere on the other side of this area, there are better options.
Rooms For reference I booked a junior suite. The facilities were nice. I wish there were more places in the bathroom to place things. That’s minor but worth mentioning because if you have multiple people in the room I think it would be noticeable. Also it’s hard to get it completely dark with the light that comes from the bathroom as there aren’t blackout curtains in the bathroom. But my biggest problem is there was an issue with my light the first night where one of them wouldn’t turn off. I contacted the staff and they came and looked at it and said it couldn’t be fixed until the morning and that my options were to sleep with it on or take my card out of the slot that controlled the electricity which means I wouldn’t have access to lights, curtains, or AC throughout the night/into the morning without getting up and replacing the card (e.g. if I wanted to use the restroom in the night I’d have to use a flashlight to get the front door, replace the card so I could have light, go to the bathroom, go back and get the card, get back in bed). Again, my option was that, or sleep with a light in the bedroom on. Honestly if I wanted options like that I would’ve stayed at a hostel not a boutique hotel. Which leads me to the next part..
Service One of the reasons I book higher end hotels is for high end service which I did not receive during my stay. Not only were they not able to give me any real solution that evening, the next day I followed up 3 times before someone replied to tell me if it had been fixed (which it had). Additionally I was told there would be accommodation for the extreme inconvenience it caused. When I reminded them of that all I received was a “sorry for the inconvenience”. When I asked if that’s the only resolution they’d be offering, I received no reply. And I still haven’t multiple days later. I included this information in the follow up survey and they said a manager would be in touch. The manager, John, never reached out. I followed up through email stating I hadn’t heard from John and no one has replied to that correspondence either. As I mentioned before, I’d I wanted this level (or rather lack there of) of customer service I would’ve booked someplace much much cheaper.
I also had issues prior to the stay regarding hotel transfer (TL;DR don’t book it through the hotel, it’s not easier than getting an Uber) that I won’t detail here as the post is already long but it was more of the same if having to follow up multiple times with no resolution or support from staff.
Overall I’m incredibly disappointed and regret the money I spent to stay here. I moved to a different hotel in the city and had a much better stay. There are better options for the price in Medellin...
Read moreMy recent stay at Hotel 23 in Medellin was unfortunately riddled with numerous issues that detracted significantly from what could have been a pleasant experience.
Shower Water Pressure: The water pressure in the shower was disappointingly low, making for a less than refreshing start to the day.
Lack of Pool: Despite expectations, the hotel only offers a rooftop jacuzzi instead of a pool, which was a letdown.
Rooftop Bar Experience: While the drinks at the rooftop bar were enjoyable, the bartender's demeanor was distant and unwelcoming, failing to create a friendly atmosphere.
Reception Service: The reception staff appeared overwhelmed and were notably lacking in hospitality, with minimal smiles or welcoming gestures.
Breakfast Service: Breakfast service was remarkably slow, taking between 40 to 50 minutes to receive orders. The quality of the food, such as the salmon bagel, was also underwhelming.
Towel Request: When requesting additional towels, the front desk's response was unexpectedly curt, questioning the need for extra towels rather than addressing the request politely.
Building Aesthetics: On a positive note, the hotel's architecture is commendable, boasting a beautiful and clean design that enhances the overall ambiance.
Unexpected Charges: The checkout process revealed an additional charge for toothpaste, which seemed excessive for a hotel of this caliber.
Overall, while Hotel 23 boasts an attractive physical appearance and good drink options at the rooftop bar, the service quality across various departments fell short of expectations. Issues ranged from poor water pressure in the showers to indifferent staff interactions and unexpectedly long wait times for breakfast. Despite a brief interaction with the manager at checkout, the apologies offered did little to mitigate the frustrations encountered throughout my stay.
In conclusion, Hotel 23 has potential, but improvements in service delivery and guest experience are crucial to justify its reputation as one of Medellin's finest accommodations.
My 2 star is because of the 5 star Design of...
Read moreDO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. SAVE YOUR MONEY! My finance and I had our wedding in Medellin and our guests complete sold out the entire hotel. We were made promises by the hotel management regarding comfortably accommodating our guests, and 23 Hotel severely underperformed. The hotel runs entirely on remote controlled technology, with a remote in each room hat connects via wifi. This is the ONLY control, there is no manual override. For the entire stay, from Thursday - Sunday, the wifi network was down and the remotes were unable to function whatsoever. This caused the hotel system to crash, meaning they were unable issue additional room keys, unable to accept payment for food/beverages using credit card, guests were unable to control the a/c in their rooms, guests could not turn on/off the lights, guests could not open/close the curtains. It was a DISASTER, but we were promised (multiple times) by the 23 Hotel management that they would do right by all of our guests. This was the same thing that they told us, and each guest, during the checkout process. However, after more than 1 month and countless email follow ups sent direct to the 23 Hotel Manager, 23 Hotel was completely and fully unresponsive. This lack of accountability is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. When they finally did reach out to us, after denying that we attempted to contact them over the past month, we were first offered between $90-$100 USD refund per room (for reservations that guests were charged between $600 -$1000+ USD, no less) and/or a complementary night the next time we visit them (which will be never). After rejecting that offer and explaining that we were promised they would rectify the situation, we were told that "there was nothing more that 23 Hotel could do".
This is unprofessional and embarrassing behavior from a "5-star hotel" that claims to pride itself of its guests and customer satisfaction. I would not recommend that anyone stay at this hotel, much less consider hosting any type of event there. You will certainly regret it, no matter what lies and empty promises are made to you by the members of this...
