We booked this hotel using booking. We were planning to be in Medellin only one night and needed to be near El Poblado Park to ride the bus to Guatape. The location seemed to be perfect and the booking process was relatively easy. The confirmation said to pay in cash at the hotel. |When we arrived we were happy with the location and reassured that it was going to be the perfect place to spend one day. |The receptionist told us our room was ready if we wanted to just leave our stuff in there before going for a walk. That was the height of our stay. It went down and down and down from there. For starters the receptionist charged us the hotel tax even though we are foreigners, had our entrance stamp and our foreign passports and no other hotel in Colombia had charged us this tax. (foreigners are exempted, It's a law). The man called the manager who refused to speak with us and just on the phone insisted we payed. Of course now we have our luggage to put away, a taxi waiting outside and a reservation that says if we cancel now we will be charged. I insisted several times but finally gave up- they said we could use our receipt and claim it at the airport on our way out of Colombia-. Then, he shows us the room: it was not what we booked and is not at the poolside but on the street side. We were with the feeling that they had downgraded us because we requested they not charge the tax. (upward of 20% extra!!) .|The guy said if we wanted that one it was more expensive, even though I was showing him the wording on the reservation. |We had to leave early to catch the Guatape bus and the place had no breakfast to speak of. Although the night receptionist was a lot nicer and did get some fruit for us to take. |Long story: we went to the Tax office at El Dorado with our receipt and our passport and -as expected- the officer said we shouldn't have been charged and they don't deal with this returns.|We were supposed to call the hotel and ask for the refund or denounce them to the SUPERINTENDENCIA DE INDUSTRIA Y COMERCIO for the illegal charges. |The hotel people never responded my emails or WhatsApp messages. I feel they are going to keep charging foreigners 20% of their bill here and there; people won't know they aren't supposed to be charged taxes and some won't even care. And penny by little penny this hotel will continue to scam millions of pesos. And yes, it is a...
Read moreWhatever you do, don’t book this hotel. I would give negative 100 stars if I could for how poorly our reservation was managed, or really for how it wasn’t managed at all since it was ultimately cancelled after confirming with them twice that we would definitely be coming. A week before our arrival, I sent a message to them through Whatsapp since it is a Colombian local number, and after not receiving a response by message, I called through Whatsapp to confirm my reservation. When I called, I spoke to a man at the front desk who assured me that my booking was confirmed, told me the type of room we had reserved and assured there would be no problems. Earlier today, the day of our arrival, I received a message from them on Agoda saying that I needed to confirm my reservation again, which I did immediately by replying to their message on Agoda, confirming we would be arriving at 10pm and would see them soon. This evening, many hours later and after our flight had already landed in Medellin at 9pm, I received another message from them on Agoda saying that I never confirmed the reservation and so it was “automatically cancelled”. Since I had already confirmed twice, I was extremely confused and immediately called them to ask about this. No matter what I said or what evidence I provided, they repeatedly told me it was cancelled because they tried to reach the phone number on the booking reservation (a random phone number that some third party agency they work through must have given them) and that they couldn’t reach me. I sent them multiple forms of proof that I had confirmed the booking both on Agoda and Whatsapp as well as the photo proof that I had already spoken to someone at the hotel a week ago on the phone to confirm. They told me it was still automatically cancelled and that they had no more rooms left, yet our booking on Agoda still says confirmed… Absolutely unacceptable and definitely a scam. Don’t plan to stay here unless you want to spend your first hours in Medellin figuring out where you’ll actually be staying because it won’t be here, even if you...
Read moreThis hotel is overpriced for the level of service. I've had better service at hostels. I'm disappointed I splurged to stay at this hotel.||||Pros:||Located on a tree-lined street at the end of Poblado, so it's quiet||About a 3 minute walk to the 3 restaurant streets||Clean||Breakfast included||||Cons:||Front desk staff is not helpful. Indifferent to reqeuests and helping guests. Often told to wait next day for "manager" to get answers. Not helpful for planning purposes||Located at least a 20 minute walk from Poblado metro stop up an incline||No hairdryer||Disappearing towels. I was missing hand towels and a floor towel most of my stay. Housekeeping would leave them 1 day then not the next||Breakfast isn't super tasty||Hallways and breakfast areas echo noise into the rooms||No...
