Hotel Holístico Monteverde — Hotel in Monteverde

My stay here was full of mixed feelings. The first room we got allocated was nice, it was one of the larger wooden chalets towards the side/back of the hotel rather than the rooms in the main building. However, there was an unsettling continuous loud scurrying noise coming from behind the walls/roof and a section of the wooden panels behind one of the beds had been replaced (as it didn't match the colour of the rest of the wood!) Unfortunately, the reception shut really early so we were unable to get the issue resolved on the first night and so instead stayed in someone else within our groups room. Their room was in the main building and much smaller/not as nice with very thin walls so we could hear next doors conversations. The following day we got moved to one of the other wooden chalets, this was an upgraded one and looked absolutely gorgeous - we even had lovely glasses and some wine left in the room which was nice. The beds were comfy and the room/fridge/outside seating area was lovely but I think we were quite put off from the night before. The second room also had a similar (but not as bad due to the solid wall behind us rather than a wooden wall) scurrying noise - but perhaps this is common for the area given you are near the forest! The hotel also had a lovely friendly little black dog, although it worried me as there were no gates to the hotel and she would often just run down/out to the road but seemingly managed to avoid getting hit/always so far comes back... The hotel grounds were beautifully kept and very pretty, they also had a lovely seating area outside the front of the hotel which was nice to gather for...

Very rustic. Set on the outskirts of town. A good 20 minute walk up and down hills on the rough road into town. Small restaurant on site for limited breakfast. Rooms are very dated, cold and damp. Dark wood paneling and single paned windows. Drapery does not keep out street lights. Windchimes ring right outside the window all night in the wind. Wooden beds were creaky but comfortable. No place to hang things in the room except for a couple of pegs. Only cold water in the sink. Mold in bathroom. Shower door broken and would not slide in track. Water pressure and temp fluctuated when in use in the shower. No AC so room and bathroom stayed very damp with lots of condensation on walls and mirror. Staff...

On arrival all looks great and rooms look cute. If you’re the unlucky one to have room 1, you will be woken by the washing machine and dryer at 5.30am. (This happened twice) When questioned staff were rude and just look at you blankly. We travelled with a group of which some had minimal lighting and had to result in wearing a head torch to get ready and find items from their case.
