My husband and I were staying in Monteverde for a few days and we fell in love with this place the first night we tried it out, it became our go to for dinner! A huge shoutout to the AMAZING staff. Our servers Sharon, Geiner and another wonderful fellow on our first day. They were all so kind and pleasant to chat with! I loved having some life chats with Sharon, she's a full of enthusiasm and generosity. Some of the kitchen staff, Joel and Mary, always made delicious food, truly outstanding! The service, food and atmosphere is what kept us coming back. Some of our menu highlights are: the hot chocolate, they use chocolate that is made by the locals, it's so rich and decadent, I wish we had more hot chocolate like this back in Canada! The spaghetti rose: I know it's part of the kids menu but the flavours were delicious and full bodied. The vegan burger: full of flavour and it felt so good eating it because it is made of lentils and beet root as opposed to having processed meat. You honestly can't go wrong with the menu items. The Aztec and Orange soup, the eggs benedict are other honourable mentions. Thank you so much to the wonderful staff for an amazing experience!! 🙏 I look forward to coming back to this restaurant the next time we come back to...

An unexpected find. Fresh tasty informal electric cuisine: a fusion of middle eastern, Greek, Central American, Asian, in the middle of Monteverde Costa Rica. We ate there twice, that says something because there are lots of options.

People raved about the shakshuka, smoothies and the various sandwiches. Breakfast and everything else is served all day by the young energetic staff who seem to be having a great time alternating between the open kitchen and serving customers.

First, we had the best cup of coffee so far in a country with great coffee. My wife’s latte was also right up there.

On our two visits we tried the souvlaki, the schnitzel sandwich, numerous smoothies, the Acari bowl. All really good, everything fresh tasting and the coffees. The aromas from the surrounding tables, indicated to us that you probably can’t miss.

Another point, everything really is fresh. You can tell not only by taste and small. When I went for a late lunch, they were out of some fresh fruits and lunch items. To me, that’s a good sign, nothing old or frozen.

I’d rate the service stronger on spirit than attentiveness, but the friendly atmosphere is contagious.

The prices are great for the quality. Looking around town you can pay a lot...

We wanted to stop off for a beer at the beer garden below. The Open Kitchen staff told us as we were entering that it wasn't opening due to a flooding/drain issue so we were kindly guided to The Open Kitchen terrace to have a beer there instead. We chose to sit on a long table/bench slightly away from the edge because we were getting wet from the drizzle in the air if we sat on the stools at the end (and we're told to sit where we wanted by the same member of staff who guided us there). She took our beer order and another member of staff brought them to us and told us that we would probably have to move because we were on a table for large groups. That didn't make us feel welcome at all, especially as there were numerous large tables the same size inside that were completely empty and were still empty when we left. As we have moved to Monteverde for a few months they could have had regular custom from us as the menu looked different compared to the other places we've been to, but being made to feel unwelcome straight away means we won't be setting foot in there again. Good job member of staff 👍 The 3 is for the kind member of staff, shame about the other one we...

The yearning for food from home only surfaced today when I saw Mac and Cheese on the menu. #theopenkitchen was a refreshing change from the food on offer recently and therefore, a must visit when in Monteverde. Located centrally in town amongst the tourist shops and adventure tour operators, we were spoilt for options in both menu choices and atmosphere. Whether it was a bowl of soup or an avocado sandwich, every meal was prepared quickly and assembled carefully. Vegan and vegetarian options available. There is an indoor and outdoor eating area, all of which is covered over. Convenient as it rained heavily during our meal. Prices are reasonable but not as cheap as El Salvador or Nicaragua. We are now in the territory of tourists and expats, hence the increase in food options and prices. The Open Kitchen is one of the few places that is disabled friendly with accessibility via a ramp. Take the time to admire the artwork on the walls and peak into the desserts fridge - was so tempting. Highly recommend. @intrepidtravel #intrepidtravel #bestofcentralamerica #monteverdefood #monteverderestaurants @theopenkitchen

The food here was delicious and both servers who helped us were incredibly friendly and they had a very robust menu with a LOT of options. Their menu was entirely online and accessed via a QR code. They also have free wifi so you can access the menu. The food was very tasty, though it is a little pricey for what it is. Coffee was also pretty dang good. Me and my mom had the iced coffee with chocolate and my brothers both had iced coffees with coconut milk. We shared a Hummus order but it only came with 1 pita cut into 2 pieces. I had the Popeye Omelet and it was very tasty and came with some extra pita which I was grateful for. My mom got the Open Avocado Sandwich which she enjoyed but said wasn't the best she'd had in Costa Rica so far. One brother got the Mixed Shawarma which was a lot of food and was pretty dang tasty. The other got the Open Kitchen Breakfast which he really enjoyed. Overall the meal was very good, if a little pricey. Would definitely recommend it if you're willing to pay 10,000-14,000 per person for your meal.

Lovely looking place, but the food was reheated in parts, and it showed when it came to taste, unfortunately. It was also our most expensive meal in Costa Rica, which didn't provide value. We weren't the only ones who noticed this. The table next to us sent their food back. You have a lovely restaurant which is extremely busy, which is excellent, but remember, if the food isn't good, people won't come back, and you have great reviews atm so a swift change could remedy this. We had the chicken shawarma, which was nice overall, but fries had been cooked a couple of times and oily. My wife had the eggs on bagel, which didn't taste nice at all, and the bagel was hard, and the entire dish was very cold. Sorry. Carrot cake was moist but with a little too much sugar. Latte was lovely, no complaints here. Staff were friendly and greeted us with a smile. Maybe consider having more waitors or waitresses as it could greatly improve speed and attentiveness. Thank you for having us, and I hope this feedback is helpful.
